I am also interested in hearing what is going on with the sport I love and which I would like to know much better. I am not interested in the collection problems of some people.
Peconic....Okay...you're bored...read another thread.

I'm an APBA member for 40 years....and I'm interested..I'll participate in this one.....different strokes.......

I understand. As we get older, we need more potent thrills. For instance this one: SECRET APBA list of membership fees REVEALED!!! Millions of APBA members, hitherto left clueless about what they pay, finally LEARN THE TRUTH. Film at 11.

How about we start all over again?.....

1. There is a major governance issue regarding the most respected (100 year old) national boat racing organization.

2. There are a lot of charges and counter charges flying around.

3. There are a series of facts that need to be brought out to clarify the issues.

All of the above seems to annoy you...and you are free to ignore the whole thing.

T2x..... breathlessly awaiting your learned reply

If Grin is truely being 'unbiased' in this deal,then why didn't he post a new thread on insurance and sanctions Offshore paid to compared to the other groups,not just membership fees?

He didnt so I'll do it for him:

INSURANCE FEES pER EVENT

(Stock - Mod -PRO - J -SLT)
ONE DAY = 1,259, TWO DAY = 1,944, THREE DAY= 2,650

(OFFSHORE - PRO)
ONE DAY = N/A, TWO DAY = 8,944, THREE DAY=12,399

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SANCTION FEES
*OFFSHORE
(Outlaw Divl.)(APBA-$775/OS-$700)………. $1,475
(Outlaw Perf. Series)(APBA-$415/OS-$250)...$ 665
Contact the ORC/St. Petersburg Office for Sanction Fees/Applications for:
- OFFSHORE PRO SERIES EVENTS ($3,600 APBA Fee Only)
- Offshore Stand alone Kilo Speed Trials
- Offshore World Championships ($6,700 APBA Fee Only)
*EVERYONE ELSE:
Stock/Mod/PRO/J/SLT/OPC/Outbd Drag/Inb/IE: $400
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And here is APBAs numbers on memberships:

Offshore racing members
1998 =570
1999=617
2000=772
2001=682
2002= 516
That's barely a 10% decrease since 1998 even with the economy taking a hit on many of these very expensive boat owners.
Also, you can tell by looking just which year LLC took over.

Now for some other categories to compare to Offshores decrease. On average, nearly all of boat racing has been declining over the past 5 years:

Superlight tun.
1998=84
2002=49 loss of 41.7%

OPC
1998=308
2002=272 - loss of 13.2%

RC
1998=186
2002=149 loss of 24.8%

Inboard
1998=522
2002=512 - loss of 2.%

P. outboard
1998=174
2002=152 - loss of 14.4%

M. outboard
1998=111
2002=114 - gain of 2.7%

Junior class
1998=49
2002=60 - gain of 22% - steady 2 or 3 racer gain each year

Stock outboar
1998=447
2000=471
2002=460 - gain of 2.9%, but losing over the past two years.

Drag
1998=120
2002=51 = loss of 61.2% (ODBA quit APBA as of 2001)

Unlimted
1998=24
2002=22 loss of 9.0%

Stats came from 2003 APBA reference book,,, For APBA referees of 1998 it dropped from 63 to 49 in 2002.
Scorers; down from 83 to 59
Asociate APBA members: 1075, to 655 in 2002
APBA clubs: 448 dropped to 317

Grand total for all memberships in APBA:
1998=5941
2002=5047 - this is a 18% drop for APBA overall while APBAs bank account steadily increased. 54% of APBAs total income came from FEES charged to Offshore and HP.

Actually most of these statistics by themselves are meaningless. Unless we know the underwriting criteria and accident/ loss ratios we can not make any kind of rational conclusions.

Do you pay more to insure your Dodge Colt or your Dodge Viper?

The Insurance rates, sanction fees etc. were set by Greg Jacobsen, Mike Jones and approved by the APBA BOD. The LLC accepted these same figures and in fact MA was on the BOD of APBA at the time. And Jones and Jacobsen are now on the "APBA Board that MA has installed".

No one in the LLC or anyone else should have a quarrel over who paid what. If the LLC did not agree with the rates they should have brought this to the forefront either when the original contract was signed or when the extension was re-negotiated. The insurance has been under a 3 year contract.

Look at what has happened to the sites and members and drivers, that are now, not only paying the APBA portion of the fees, but the additional "markup" by the LLC. Where is the concern here? You don't see any but all blame only the APBA.

The LLC has a right to make money. They are and should be allowed to set fees as they see fit. But by the same token so should APBA.

So what is the beef?

I no longer race so I am on the outside looking in,but at noon today and noon Sunday Marathon kicks off with a lot of fine boats, should be great racing, where else would we go? I don't know enough about all of this to take sides and I don't want to take sides but I have friends that are racing in Marathon that will call to tell me how they finished today and Sunday,I'm happy there is a race,don't know about the politics or legal stuff,let's go racing.

Default Race?

I'll race you to the popcorn!
I want to hear all 3 sides and if you choose not to then that is your freedom of choice. I no longer race but I think there should be a forum for everyone to voice their opinions. If someone is persistent in their efforts to further their beliefs then just hope that someday this guy will go to bat for you. what would happen if we all just let things go? nothin. my two fish
