Default Do people actually do this?

Was reading a reply on another boating forum. (non performance boaters) The original poster had purchased a new boat and had a question about continued use of Synthetic Oil like the manual recommended. Someone replied, "It wouldn't hurt since you only change your oil once a year anyway". What the hell is that about. Was he serious? Do people actually run their boat that long without an oil change?

Buck, it is feasable that some people might only change theirs once a year. MANY people up this way only put 50 hours on their boats a year. Remember, short season. I change mine a lot more often than that, but on many smaller boats or cruisers where the motors aren't run hard like ours are, 50 hours might not be that bad.

On my first boat that had a 350 mag in, I would put about 80 hrs a year on it and only changed the oil at winterization.
Second boat with 454 mag, I would change it once about halfway through the season.
Current boat with 525SC, I run full synthetic, and change it every 25-30 hrs.

Well over 100 hours, change every spring. As for running hard? Never, I only run WFO for 4 miles at a time.
