OK, I never did buy the tool to remove the fuel filter, and of course now I need one. Any ideas on other things to fit in those slots?

If you can buy them do auto parts stores have them?

Did'nt need a tool to replace mine. The first time you remove it, it is pretty tight though. BTW NAPA usually has the best prices on filters, about half what the Ford dealer charges.

Bryan, I just take a big pair of pliers and tape the ends, then spread the jaws to fit inside the cap and turn. I have seen guys make special tools but a big pair of pliers or channel locks works just fine.

I've never used a tool. I take a pair of channel locks and spread the handles. Lock the handles in the top of the fuel filter cannister and twist. It might be a little tight but it works well.

Use the channel locks to remove. NAPA has the best price $26.00 and the new filter has a button on top for a 1/2 inch drive. It will replace the old where the cap and filter are one. Pull the old filter out slow to avoid a huge fuel spill, throw away the old gaskets....all of them. Coat the new filter gaskets with fuel from the bowl and snug with a 1/2 inch drive rachett. You can remove the plastic shroud to get better access but with the new filter you don't need to as it is all one piece.

I ended up cutting a U bolt down, waited all day for PDQ for a Puralator $26 and it has a different head, in stalled it.
I should be fine.
Maybe mine are too tight?
I did use a bit of lube on the threads to ease next remove.

Bowl drain just dripped, so I got on her (HARD, WOT! LOL), came home, threw the yellow lever and she pissed hard, good to go now.

Maybe I won't wait 30,000 miles for the light to come on again!
Silly me.... I change it at about 17K, we are at 50K miles now.

Does the Racor have the same head/top as the Ford replacement?

I change mine every 10K miles whether it needs it or not! Cheap insurance and carry a spare incase you pick up some bad fuel on one of your baot trips:D

What brand are you using?
This was a Puralator from Advance Auto.
1 piece design, unlike Fords, top and metal canned filter.

Whatever they are selling:D I use the Advance because there is one close to the house. Bryan, have you put a chip in that truck yet?? I have let several friends try mine out and every one has bought one soon after, you would not regret it.

No chip, we are pretty happy with her as is.
After reading the above I think mine were just installed to tight.
I double checked my records, I had about 15000 on that one.
Book says every 5000. Maybe I will do every 10000 unless the light comes on, which is what happened to me this time.
