Chris, you know US,, LOL,,, I would like to be in the low 70's, I know the outlaw will NOT get me there, more like mid 60's, but if it has the ride and cockpit were looking for then it may be o.k.

I heard good and bad about velocity, not knocking them either but have heard they are not a good rough water boat myself, heard they fall apart.

I do like the checkmate and it has the amenities and the speed just not convinced about the non-merc. motor or the overall quality of checks.. I guess I need to take a ride in one and see for myself..

Chris,
There are a lot of these motors out there that are run in salt. I really don't think you'll see any major problems. If the boat doesn't sell soon, I am going to bring the boat to Long Island and run it in the ocean. I talked to Chris about this, and he didn't seem to have any problems with it. Again, he'd know better than me...

Look hard at the PQ 280 Silencer. It has a cockpit bigger than ANY 28" boat and about as big as most 31' boats. That's where you spend 98% of the time on the boat, right? Ride is very good and DRY. Will run 66-68 w/ a 502 and mine would hit 70 with "just" the right conditions. No creaks or rattles, rigging is better than top notch as is their glass work. Handles very predicably.

Used to run with OSO member "Macklin" who had a 272. The PQ rode 300% smoother. The 272 was nice looking boat, and fast but the ride was pretty poor. He stepped up to a PQ last season.

Another very nice boat is a Sunsation 288. I have not personally ridden in one, but one of my feinds has one and absolutly loves it.

BTW: If you want a 272, Ducky boats in PA has Macklins old ('00 or 01) 272. That boat was kept SUPER nice!!!!!! It has a Boss pak, 502 w/ Stainless marine exhaust. VERY CLEAN!!!!!! They are asking $49K but I'd be willing to bet you could get it for $40K or less. Did I mention it was clean??? I know that boats history, and would personally buy it if it met my needs.

Easy there, notice I said "Know where you boat". I wasnt completely implicating myself in case the authorities are reding this
Rick E from the NJPPC has a 28 Velocity with twins and I know he likes it. I dont have much first hand exp. but Ive never heard there rats.
Power Quest, there is a dealer closer than you think, I really know nothing about them but it would be foolish not to drive 30 mins to look.

Oh ya
SELL YOUR BOAT NOW!!!!

Chris,
I think you can get a new 25' Warlock for around that (I think the LA boat show price was $55k) with a 496HO which will run 70+.

Personally I would go that route.

Good luck,
Rick

chris if the sonic wind screen is to high cut it down some . why don't you buy the 26 sonic in maryland and trade joe"flip" for his 25 outlaw , he's really hot on sonic right now after riding in ours and going to the miami show and sonic factory !!

Heres your homework
1) SELL YOUR BOAT (if you havent already)
Checkmate; talk to Ken, he had one before his Sonic
Outlaw; I know of 3 to ride in and look at.
Sonic; again 3
Active Thunder; Me
Pantera and Fountain; Hmmm I know there's a Fountain around but dont see him alot. Pantera is a kick a$$ boat I loved it but the freeboard on the AT won me over.
Sunsation; Dave has that 32 foot rocket, he took Paul and I for a ride and seemed like a very nice guy. Im sure he'd let you look.
Powerquest; Patsy's is now a PQ dealer and Jimmy (owner) raves about them. Im sure they would even work a trade.
Oops,
Did I mention Kryptonite, its a sit down but dam fast.

All but 2 of these boats are within 15 miles. By the time you look at them all you'll either be really confused or know just what you want.

Default Pantera

Pepe and Joe make one hell of an awesome performing boat and as far as twins on the 28, yes it does come that way but they also sell it single screw. Board member Von Bongo has a beautiful 28 with believe a 525 in it. Check out Pantera's website or just call Joe with any questions
