OT- What's it worth?
1 Attachment(s)
It's time for me to part with my favorite vehicle that I have ever owned.:( I'm getting a 2500 Suburban and the dealer will give me $5500 for my 95 Tahoe. It's got 184,000 miles and runs like it's brand new. 60 #'s of oil pressure at start up and driving down the road. 30 #'s of oil pressure in drive at idle. I have never had to add oil between oil changes. As you can see by the picture, it looks new as well. LT package,cd,leather...loaded-power everything. NADA says low retail $7200...avg $8925...high retail...9990. That is after deducting $2325 for the high mileage. I have it advertised in the paper this weekend for $8200:rolleyes: Do any of you all think it will sell?

I'll give you $5500

Originally posted by Too Old It sure looks clean considering the age and mileage. Seems like someone would be thrilled to get it for 7 grand. But then again, what do I know? Uuhhh, you know everything Fred, i mean Sir, please don't start bashing me:D :D :D |
I'll give you two six packs of bud for it.:D

I trust www.Edmunds.com moreso than NADA. NADA always seams more slighted toward the dealer rather than consumer.
I think you have it priced right; as you are willing to negotiate. $5500 is not too shabby on Trade-In, but it sounds as though the dealer is getting some moolah back from the hold back, as he is going to have to wholesale it anyhow. You can always check with 'bsag' from here on the board to see what he can do for you. He took care of Too Old, myself, and a few others. Are you getting the 8.1 or the 6.0 in the Suburban, (or is it an older one)? Just remember my mileage went from 14 all the time on the '96 2 Door Tahoe, to down right PAINFUL on the new 8.1. Thankfully, it has been retired from daily driver to boat puller only. |

Wait, you mean; crankcase, tranny, brake, freon, wiper fluid, antifreeze, front transaxle, and rear transaxle fluids too right? I imagine you go ahead and re-pack all the bearings and zerks each time out too right?

I think that advertising it on Memorial Day weekend was a bad idea. Between the Holiday and the   RAIN, I got very few calls. Brian, call me (202)439-6940 |

Or your practical knowledge cat which is worth nothing.

One thing that will hurt the value of this Tahoe is the year model. It's the last year of the Throttle Body motor. This means less HP. The Vortec motor would REALLY help the value of this Tahoe.
I deal A LOT in the automotive aftermarket. That's how I make my living. This is one thing that my customers would look at when purchasing this vehicle. The difference between the two motors is night and day. Buck |

How about a package deal? $27,000/ OBO for all of it.

Anything over 100,000 miles is going to be a tough sell. Dealers usually are prohibited from financing them, so won't keep it. I've traded in a couple. Dealer called the wholsalers while I was in his office, gave me exactly what the highest number he got was.
Selling private party is a long haul if it is over the amount most people can pay cash for, couple of thousand, due to the (perceived more than real) difficulty of financing a private party deal. -Greg |

SOLD!!!!! Everything is coming together at just the right time.:D Got a 2500 Burb last night and sold the Tahoe this morning...funny how things work out:D :D
For those with inquiring minds....$6200 Craig |
One thing that will hurt the value of this Tahoe is the year model. It's the last year of the Throttle Body motor. This means less HP. The Vortec motor would REALLY help the value of this Tahoe. Are you saying that the 96's and up are not throttle body, or that they have the Vortec heads? I have looked at several 96-99 GM's with the Vortec, and they all look to be throttle body. If they are port-injected, they did a good job hiding the injectors. Looks like GM went to the port injection setup on the new-generation 5.3's and 6.0's. I have looked at a '95 Tahoe that is for sale by a local dealer for $6800. It has 131K on it, but looks to be in pretty nice shape. It does have the 4WD shift on the floor instead of the dash-mounted button. As GregP mentioned, the dealer is having a tough time unloading it because of financing. It is in a blue-collar part of town where most people don't have the cash available. The dealer wants it off the lot pretty bad - I might make a low-ball offer. The main downside to this one is that it has the 3.42 gears instead of the 3.73's. I'm looking for a cheap tow vehicle, because I can't justify having 15K or better tied up in something that sits most of the time (unless it is appreciating like the old ragtops!) The dealer has offered to let me take the '95 home to check it out, so I might just hook it up to the boat and find a long hill and see what it can do. Craig, with 182K on yours, you did real well to get $6200 out of it. |
