Did anyone call on that all white 46'? Seems like a good deal but I would assume it would need Triples to get it movin'.:D
|
The Beast was originally 'Satin Doll' and was built for my buddy Bill Schaefer from Baltimore. Mark M. and Don Aronow built it for Bill. As far as we know, it was the first 38 ever built. My first ever ride in an offshore boat was on Satin Doll in 1979. Now, I'm not saying Cigarettes are addictive, but I'm on my third. They should put a freaking attorney generals warning label on the side!

Could well be! although the graphics are very different.
I presume you mean the aeromarine spare prop mountings? dick's boat had them, so it could be the one. another giveaway would be signs of the original exhaust outlets (diesel motors) having been very badly filled in by the aleged glass worker!! although of course that might well have been put right now. I'll try and find some pics of it in it's original form, and post em. In fact, I'm a bit gobsmacked to see my name still appears to be on the transom, "engines by Jon Fuller"! |
leviathan
Thanks for the info, I can't really say I have seen prop
mounts such as that. I also don't believe I would ever want them mounted on the out side of the boat eithere. Thanks again Cougarman |
well they were made in the good old US of A! Mr kiekaifer (is that spelt right?) made and marketed them. they have quite a nice spin on hub/retainer, with a pit pin(push button on the end to release) through the end for safety.
these gadgets were fitted in that location by the original rigger (jimmy brooker) when being set up for racing, I geuss if you were to damage a prop and need to change it whilst out on the water it's a convenient place to take and replace a heavy cleaver from when you're perched on the drives, bobbing about in a bit of chop. anyway, it was a nice surprise to see the boat again, I've often wondered what came of it! pleasure boats of this type are quite rare in the UK coz of the ****e weather and ridiculous fuel costs (gasoline) |
 I would like to see the look on the APBA race inspectors faces with 3 spare Cleaver props mounted in that location.
The 46' Cougar V bottom is 1 on my favorite boats, Next to a 41'/47' Apache of course:D |
Yeah, your probably right!, remember this was 1986 tho' things were a little more lax back then in the regulation dept.
mind you, the business end of a triple rig like that is a pretty dangerous place to be anyway! Even with the limited power of triple 465's (these were the first of the factory 502's from HP products, which gave a top end in the mid to late 70's mph), when you got that boat out in the sloppy stuff it was just fantastic! it made mincemeat of seas I wouldn't even wanna be out in, in other "lesser" boats, I just wish I could afford to run all that gasoline power over here, but at six dollars a gallon, I don't think so! P.S. the spare props were mounted, tips towards the boat, not tips sticking out, so it could have been worse! |
Glassdave: that would be great if you could get that article posted, thanks...Matt

33' location
CashBrain,
I think MRD in Long Island had a 33' in there building. I don't know if it was available or not. 631-225-5656 Ask for skip Cougarman |
I cant see the pics because I am a cheap Bastard but from your description of the power, that is the boat. It was Re-rigged and had an ugly trailer and truck. Both the truck and trailer are gone as it was traded into a friend on a package deal. A fairly new trailer is now under the boat and contrary to popular belief the boat is in very good condition. Actually the techs that have been doing the work are the same guys working on some of the worlds most Exotic cars. I just spoke with the owner last week and I know the boat has been gone over and cared for. Its nice to see someone taking care of the old toys!

Cougarman,
I asume you got that pic of dick's cougar 46 (toyota RHS) from OSO somewhere going by the OSO logo bottom right. Is there a photo gallery on OSO that I don't know about, if so, where can I find it? Ta. |
I thought war hawk was a 38' cig with strokers and the Hawk package?
|
leviathan
Toyota pic, yes that one did come from the gallery,
Just scroll back to the top of this screen and go into the photo section. That is the only pic I found though. Mad Hatter, Where in the heck did that comment come from? Anyway's WarHawk is an apache I believe. I assume you referring to the one in St. Joe / South Haven. :D :D :D Cougarman |
Cashbrain, Call Jerry at Oasis Marine he has one in his shop that I believe is for sale.

Cougarman,
I just noticed in the parts for sale section some 'spare prop holders' just like the ones on the Toyota 46 US1! (remember you'd not seen them before) here's a link to the add: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=50596 or this one: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=50244 |
there are two boats named warhawk that are around lake mi.
one is a 41 apache (yellow with blue letters) and a 35 or 38 flat deck cig. (white with a small hawk on the side) |

sorry no pics. of the cig.:(
|
Hey 28 .... where's Warhawk at now ??? Who owns it ???
JM |
Warhawk
Leopajm,
It is usually in South Haven and or St. Joe Michigan. Not sure who the owners are, Kaama might know if Saber 28 doesn't. Alway's sounded really nice, big engines and two into one exhaust. Cougarman |
I recognise the apachi now, I haven't seen the other war hawk in years. Does that guy even still own it? Years ago he had some pretty healthy strokers in it, sounded real good and was pretty fast, beat my Dad's cig a few years back. (but that was before the 8-71's ;) )
|
don't know who owns it now, that pic. was taken about 99 or 2000. it needs a little freshening up , but doesn't look bad up close.
|
that cig. called warhawk, is a monster in rough water. always enjoyed watching it run in the rough stuff. have not seen it in a few years:cool:
|
I remember the Warhawk from an old Pier 33 poker run video ... sounded quite bad !!!!!!
"Where are they now ?" |
the apache warhawk was in pier 33 the last i knew. the cig.? not a clue. it just appears every now and then to kick the sh&t out of some unknowing fool that dares to mess with it in 4-6 footers:D
|
Hi, can you email the article on the Apache, Cougar?, as I am a new owner of a 38.
Thanks, Dan |
