Becareful that you get a history of the maintenance of the engine.
Some engines had a tough life and are almost toast and some were problematic with little things. The later is the one you want.
When they go they cost quite a bit so be wary of a great deal.
Ask lots of questions.
If you run on salt water it can also cause problems with build up so you will need water injection.
There are smaller turbines availible 650 hp / 300 hp that are a little more affordable.

They last a long time, but when their time is up it's big big bucks to rework it. The alloys themselves become brittle and many high dollar parts go in the trash.

Timucin: You want to check out http://marineturbine.com/company/company_why.htm

They use reconditioned aircraft units (new ones are price prohibitive). They say, price is approx $100/hp

Dealing with a turbine under 1,500 hp is in my opinion just not worth it. Buy a Mercruiser and get a warranty card. The biggest problem with the history of turbines in boats is to many people have looked to it as a cheaper alternative. Turbine packages can be put together very reliably now but they aren't cheap. Your getting more reliable horsepower in a lighter package, why would it be cheaper?

As Shifter said watch out for turbines that you don't know the history of. A bad turbine can be a real evil little beast. A good one will give you the best power and acceleration known to man in a boat.

John,
What is the cost on a t55? I might have a customer that is interrested.
I was with Andreas watching you run in Marathon. I have several pictures of you running if you are interrested.
