Wildthing Taz here on the board has a similar offer. He also helped me out with an "access window" kit so you could go straight through the back of the transom assembly instead of working through the little side holes. It worked out very well for me. I was going to try and organize my pictures and do a step by step but Im not finding the time.
Ill post these until I get the rest up.

He provides a cut out template, drill bits, cutting wheels, gasket, ss plate and mounting screws.
Here is the template being cut out.

Access to the top nut is good (this is a bear to knock off using side hole method) With a little modification to the wrenches (ground and bent) the tiller arm bolt is easy as well.
If I return the wrenches Ron lent me Im sure he would lend them to you
There on their way Ron

Completed with the plate installed.
I never did the job using the side holes but It has to be far more difficult than this. Ron was professional and very easy to do business with.

Hey, I recognize the mechanic in those photos!;)

Why not just pull the gimble and do it right? It's not that hard to pull an engine & gimble.

Tantrum 06-03-2003 03:26 PM

It would have taken a considerable time longer to pull the motor for 1, and 2, the three people involved in this project couldnt stand the thought of pulling ANOTHER motor.
