hp 500

Looking at a 99 353 Formula with 350 hrs.on hp500 carb motors. I know about the valve spring problem but at about how many hrs. should the these engines be rebuilt. Thanks:confused:

ActiveThunderTodd 06-06-2003 11:48 PM

had mine done at just about 350....several broken valvel springs. other than that motors were in really good shape

do a compression test and leak down. if that comes out ok the just get valve job. i have almost 800 hrs on mine no problems.

wow 800 hours shows equipment will last if you take care of it, sounds like a good plan on leakdown, also see if they have oil change records and history on boat, if they never changed oil are every 100 hours are so you might need a total rebuild,

Hey Mike!
You don't need another boat, the one you have is just fine. This would start a bad chain of events, if you get a bigger boat I have to get a bigggger boat. If you get a bigger boat you would have to get a bigger tow vehicle, if I get a begggger boat I would have to get a biggggger tow vehicle. Where would it all end?

Just kidding, do you have any pictures, where is it at the moment, when can we go for a ride, if you get it by the poker run can we ride with you? You know how much fun it is shopping for a boat for someone else.

You and Pollie can ride with us on the river tomorrow, if the weather clears up.

the motor is great other than the spring issue an it depends on the oil changes ,,ect. on the rest of the motor ,,,treadwell has really lasted really taken care of it ;)
