Apba Offshore Announces Stock Outboard Event For Os Worlds
June 6, 2003
St. Petersburg, Fla. - APBA Offshore Powerboat Racing, LLC, the exclusive sanctioning authority of offshore racing for the American Power Boat Association, announced today that it will conduct a Stock Outboard category racing event during this year’s OS Worlds Championships in Key West, Florida.
This is not the Stock Outboard racing that offshore fans are used to though. Indeed, these 10ft. long, hand made missiles, while capable of speeds comparable to an Outlaw Performance boat (70+mph), are small enough to fit within a Super Cat’s engine compartment! In fact, the boats are so compact that the pilots are forced to kneel down while they race, hence, the legendary moniker, “kneel downs” for this historic form of racing.........

Yes they do have their own class. Earlier this year there were over 200 of the little guys running at their Winter Nationals in Ocoee Florida under the flag of USBRA. TheUSBRA is a new club and that was their first race. I do beleive they are sanctioned by the APBA.
They may be running with the big boys to fill in any dead time between races and/or to introduce them to the OS fans. Yoy would have both ends of the spectrum at the race site-The $$$ Offshore class and the out of the garage kneel down.
There were rumors last year that the Unlimited Hydros would be running with the OS guys at St Pete Beach but that never happened.

I know I had a blast running the Bullet in Key West with the Mini-Boat class when NPBA ran an exhibition. Right up until the tragic accident occurred.....
