Never mind.

QUOTE FROM CUDA: I think you're missing the point here. Now take the treadmill idea, extrapolate it to 70 mph in a boat with a 70 mph current, the gps would still say zero, but you would have 70 mph of water passing under your hull. In other words, the gps measures your COG (course over ground), not what speed you are moving through the water.
THANKS, EXACTLY!
A GPS READS (COURSE OVER GROUND) BUT THAT 70MPH IS FROM A WATER-PRESSURE SPEEDO, NOT GPS...SINCE YOU ARE NOT MOVING, THE GPS WILL READ ZERO...BUT CURRENT CANNOT CHANGE GPS READINGS, IT CAN ONLY SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN SO YOU GET A LOWER GPS READING. AIR SPEED AND GROUND SPEED ARE THE SAME, A MILE PER HOUR IS EXACTLY THAT, BUT AIR SPEED MEASURED WITH PRESSURE AND AFFECTED BY HEADWIND OR TAILWIND WILL REGISTER DIFFERENT THAN GPS SPEED, SINCE GPS IS ACCURATE.

You guys have way too much time on your hands !

Can you all come over and put my boat back together for me and then you can discuss this GPS/ BPS thing in person and save all the typing !:D I'll just need ear plugs !!

X man this is an old one and they are geating your goat. Speed is all relive to sthe surface or media you are in or on. but the GPS is acurate but in a body of water with a curent the boat is getting a little extra push. You could turn the motors off and still see 3 mile an hour. Rag's

I thought we were talking drive showers here?

Anyway, I will take it back to the drawing board and try to figure the speed out. Thanks for the input

Earlier in this thread there was some question as to what type of oil should be used in the GPS unit. NEVER MIX OIL TYPES! Use the same weight and type of oil in the GPS as you use in the engine itself. Failure to do so can result in dreaded GPS bearing failure!
This is especially dangerous with a hand held unit where a bearing seizure can cause a broken wrist! Or, if you`re a ''Poodle''
complete wrist detatchment.

If a wood chuck was on the boat going down river on the 4th of July!!!!!!!

Mr. Demeanor 06-09-2003 09:43 PM

Are your drive showers polished or satin? :D

PS. I always run from the back to the front of my boat with GPS in hand while at top speed for that extra mph. Its the cheapest improvment i have been able to make.

Do you regularly check your GPS for max speed?

What is the higest speed you've ever registered on your boats GPS?

How fast is your boat?
