IMCO on 22' Velcity?
Wondering about an imco shorty drive on my boat.
I talked to Velocity about it and they gave me the run around, evetually the guy told me they haven't tested it before. Has anybody heard of any results of this combo? Also Smoke on water the water would have been alot better without the smoke on the water. |
Did it make in difference in chine walk, top speed or control?
|
so is there an advantage to buying it?
|
I switched from a 3 blade spinelli to a 4 blade lab finished bravo from Velocity. It made quite a bit of difference in the handling of the boat. The boat is still not a sit down and put the throttle down type of boat. You have to really drive the boat. It took me over a year to finally get the trim and a few other things figured out to get the boat to run. Once you find that trim point, this boat just sits back and goes.

I'm doing 92mph on handheld GPS with 4 blade 30 pitch bravo non lab finish. I'm hoping to get my hands on a 30 lab finish to try and get me up to 5200-300 hundred RPM's. Right now I'm spinning at 5100 rpm's. I was running a Hyrdo Motive 4 blade 28 non labbed before and was hitting the rev limiter. I want to get into the upper 90's. When you say two inches below the hull are you talking the X dim?
|
Acceleration is no problem, the boats sets you back like like a car when I nail it. Whats the best X dim for top speed? Thanx for your help so far by the way.
|
also do you have wedges on the chines and pad on the back of your boat?
|
What kind of power are you running?
|
ever heard of taking those wedges out? What are they there for?
|
K-planes. They are mounted parallel (sp?) to the ground, not with the angle of the V. Not sure if they came on the boat stock or if they got put on with the motor install.

Steve, I hope you know your really messing with my head!! With the baby and everything else I haven't had a chance to start on my 22, but NOW I have to!!! I was planning on taking it off the trailer this evening!!
Does my boat have shingel's??? or a wedgie'??? What is my X cut at?? Man that sounds real bad!!!! |
boner springs huh?
Steve: Lightweight engine? |
Well, it's Bonner Springs but all the Rock concerts that come to town do call it "Boner Springs" (We have a outside amphitheater here)
Lightweight engine - Steve has told me this before... He said to go with a small block to keep it light... But, I'm with you, I'd rather have a big block for the shear power.... But, then again these guy's (Steve & Gary) have forgot more about setting up a Boat, than I will ever know!!! F.Y.I. I did finally get the Velocity off the trailer and set onto blocks the other night!!!!!:D |
I lost to a 38 top gun twin step yesturday cause I couldn't keep the nose down. I had to run heavy tab, it slowed me way down. Pissed me off I couldn't catch him.
|
So how the hell do I move the CG? The pulleys are sticking through the board already, so I really can't move the motor forward, I'm kissing the steering wheel so I can't move my seats forwards. Add a balast tank?
|
I am also trying to figure out how to control my 22' velocity. Once I start to really get into her the bow wants to really come up and then it starts to bounce. It only does this on really calm water If there is any sort of chop, the boat sits right back and goes. I am currently running a pitch bravo lab finished. I am thinking of giving a or mirage a try to see if it will hold the front of the boat up. Any ideas on this?

I currently am running a 26pitch labbed bravo. This prop works great when there is some chop. On the calm stuff, the boat really wants to bounce. I can run tabs to get rid of the bounce, but I lose about 4-5 mph. From what I understand, the mirage might help lift the front more and keep the boat back on its pad.
|
What kind of power are you running MaxV? @ what sppeds are you getting nose bob?
See I'm trying to get more tail lift and more down pressure on the bow. My nose gets all flighty when I'm in the rougher stuff. Not quite sure how to do it yet. I'm not sure if a battery could handle being up towards the bow? |
Right now, I am pretty much running a stock 454/330, except for emi stainless exhaust, carb, etc. Just bolt on parts right now. I have almost all of the new parts for the new motor which I am going to have done this fall/winter. I will be looking at 475-500hp when done with the new motor.
I start to get the bounce at about 60mph. It almost seems like the boat needs more power to keep the nose up and sit back on its pad. I have played with the trim, tabs, etc. and nothing seems to be able to make this boat run flat on calm water. If there is any sort of chop in the water, this boat is great, but on dead calm water this boat just bounces all over the place? |
Thats what I do, I run it so the drive is flat with the hull, 5 on my Keikeffer (sp?) indicator. I also run with my tabs about zero'd out, cause this is where I run them when I race so alls I have to do is trim it up and nail it if a run into a race.
Steve- Where did you hear to put your tabs on an 11 degree angle? |
