Heard stories of the front torsion bars on the F-150 and F-250 LD's snapping in cold weather, but nothing on the rear leafs.
Have you owned since new? Has it ever been heavily loaded? I broke an entire right rear spring package on an 1.5(?) ton Chevy truck once. The load (1 piece @ 3200 lbs) I was carrying shifted to the right and then came a dip in the road. The right side went down with a crash. |
I went to the local spring shop (Toledo Spring) and he said with a Grin "Oh what a surprise another Super duty" I had a feeling that was coming we worked out a price of 500.00 to do both sides replacing both spring packs and all hardware including the U-bolts. I could buy the spring packs for 140.00 each and try and break the old hardware free but it just is not worth it to me to tie up a whole Saturday and to deal with the unknown problems that will come up.
I would also like to add that since this post I had two more break and the only spring left is the main. I will have them replaced Monday A.M. I am convinced that Ford had a bad batch of springs and that I am paying for it Would I buy another one? YES:D |
$500 seems like a good price. My buddy works at a foord dealership and did one side of mine for $350.
