NY / NJ - Need Good Directions

This is somewhat boating related....I need the easiest/most direct way to trailer a 34 footer from Long Island to Liberty Landing Marina for the NYC Poker Run.

Thanks

There is No good way easy way from long island pulling a boat. Easiest way is by water..but I know you dont want to do that.

Any way...if your coming from the south shore, Take the Southern State Pkwy. to belt parkway to the Varazzano. SI Xpressway..to Bayonne Bridge..into New Jersey. Follow rt 169 to NJ turnpike. that will put you on at 14a. Go 2 exits pay toll and get off at 14c.

From the North Shore: you could come straight through NYC, but I wouldnt.

Take the GW bridge to the NJ Turnpike South get off at 14 a,b,c, (Neward Bay extension) to exit 14c

Get off at 14c ...at bottom of ramp make left, come under Turnpike, Go around circle 1/2 way bear right . Go straight past Liberty Science center to very end and make right ...you are now in Liberty Sate Park

Welcome

I don't think you can pull a trailer on the Southern State or Belt Parkways.......

Do the GW Bridge thing...forget going through Manhattan.

Thank You.

I like the GW Bridge route you described since I am on the North Shore. Your directions are much better than Mapquest's with 16 thousand turns! Do you know of any construction on that route? Should I be aware of any landmarks or trouble spots?

Thanks for your help.

I tow from NJ to the East End of LI all the time. Here's what to expect. Construction on the LIE, I don't think it will ever end, Cross Bronx Expressway SUCKS, always lots of traffic, towing over the GWB is like running in 6' swells, the bumps and potholes are killer! Sometimes I slow down to 10 mph crossing the bridge. Once you are over the bridge the roads are much better.

I take exit 27 on the LIE for the Clearview Expressway. Never any traffic and leads you right onto the Throgs Neck Bridge, and then right onto the Cross Bronx. But be forwarned, the speed limit is 50 mph and there are cops that sit and shoot radar, I got nailed going 68 mph . As far as getting you to the marina, I don't know.

yOU CAN'T TOW ANYTHING ON ANY "PARKWAY"

ONLY ON "EXPRESSWAYS"& "TURNPIKES"

Trust me on this one.

LIE west to Clearview north.
go over Throgs neck bridge

Go to GW (west)

I don't know from there.

Thanks for all of your input...The Cross Bronx w/rain and 36 feet of trailer should be fun!

Go by water!
Drop your boat in at Manhasset or Glen Cove & you will be at Liberty Landing in 15-20 minutes. If your towing over on Friday anytime from 3pm on, expect to spend about two hours on the Cross Bronx alone.
I believe all the construction on the Cross Bronx is finished but it still gets REALLY backed up on Fridays.

OK ... A new brain teaser.

Trailer Legal 8'6"
Boat Beam 9'4"

Can I pass through a standard EZ PASS Toll Booth without getting wedged in?

BARCOASTAL 06-12-2003 09:13 AM

Yes you will make it, but it will be tight, you are about a foot wider than i am, and i have about a foot on either side, so you should have a bout 6 or 8 inches on either side, not much but if you know what you're doing, you'll be fine!

LIOPA 06-12-2003 09:32 AM

Do you know if EZ PASS has an oversize lane at the toll plaza or is that a cash lane only for big rigs. I hate tight spots and try to avoid them.

Thanks
