I bet our boat club will have 4 or 5 times more boats there that weekend for our Fun Run. We called our hotel to reserve a slip earlier in the week, and they said they had to wait to see how many racers called for slip reservations. The dockmaster called back Friday and said there were plenty of slips, so we reserved one. I believe they are also closing the closest boat ramp to the public for the racers. That seems a shame, since there will be far more boats from our club. I think most of our club members are running down by water anyway. I know we are.

Ben@SRP 06-16-2003 06:53 AM

I was there and Puder's right, NOT GOOD. How long can this thing they call SBI continue?

groove 06-16-2003 07:05 AM

Can you help out someone hwo is trying to learn about this. I've been watching the APBA races on TV and love it. I like watching the big water races like Cape Cod last year. Just glad I'm not in the boat with my back...

What is SBI racing?

Are there other offshore events?

East coast, west coast?

Thanks

Goodfella 06-16-2003 08:13 AM

Had a nice relaxing weekend in Marathon. The best race to watch was Super V.
Maybe it should be called SVI(Super Vee International) Instead of SBI?

RaceLover 06-16-2003 08:25 AM

Every time there is a problem Carbonells famous saying is "You don't have to race here if you don't want too". I guess everyone took it to heart this year. He showed his true colors in New York last year. Now apparently he even lost the guy that started all the trouble bu cheating,Doug kelly. Bad moral decision, even worse business decision!! Loose 5 boats to protect 1 cheater!! I don't get it!!

Pete B 06-16-2003 08:26 AM

It was relaxing, no pressure to see all the boats. as for the race,
super vee was a good race, a little excitment as Shockwave spun on the first lap battling instigator. but recovered. dont know what happened to vixen though.

Hey Groove...

SBI is another sanctioning body for offshore racing. They also have a schedule for the year. The problem with SBI is that they just dont seem to draw a large number of boats to their venues. There are many reasons which I dont want to discuss on this thread. For more info on SBI go to their web site.

Groove, The are 2 national Programs
APBA and SBI the are also regional clubs that put on races in the Northeast, Midwest, South East and West. Check the milling area for info. there are also links on most of the sites to the regional races.

Mag27 06-16-2003 09:14 AM

Pete B,Vixen was there but didnt race.I run into a small medical problem in Frt Myers that was no problem at the time and wrote it off as to many hours,to much coffie and forgot about it.Well lets say that was a bad idea. When we took our physicals it had gotten a lot worse and everyone agreed I best not race.Everyone taulks about how loose the rules are in SBI,but I can tell you thier not loose on the medicales.I do want to say THANK YOU SBI. Were going to put everything on hold for now and hope I can get this fixed before the nationals in oct. MEL TEAM VIXEN

response to Payton

Hi Payton,

Thanks for inquiring. Our team, along with Mike and Larry Hanson, have built a virtually new hull for the 2003 season and invested substantial sums in associated equipment. The O Boy! O Berto company has returned for their 3rd. year of sponsorship, and significantly elevated their financial commitment. These folks pay me well and I didn't feel right possibly getting injured in the Offshore boat and not being able to meet my commitments with the U-6. This team and sponsor are great folks to race for and I believe I just owe them.

Reggie has been a teriffic owner these past three offshore seasons, and I look forward to joining him again when the time is right. He provided us great equipment, financial support and a wealth of knowledge. Throttling with Benny, Brett May and Mike Seebold was a pleasure.

With all the "stuff" surrounding our sport right now, I'm feeling especially blessed to be where I am.

Hope you can make it to the Evansville or Madison races. You know we've got the passes and Beef Jerky just waiting :)

Take care,

Steve

fountain1fan 06-16-2003 05:14 PM

good luck steve hope you have a great and winning season robbie

puder 06-16-2003 05:19 PM

dude free beef jerk!!!!!! i'm there!!!!!!!

frequentflyer 06-16-2003 05:28 PM

Mel,
Hope you get better soon. I saw you guys as you were pulling out of the public ramp on 33rd Saturday. I was putting my boat in the water. (25 Power Play). Vixen looked sweet.

blueamerican 06-16-2003 06:19 PM

This is just one more reason that either SBI join APBA or go bust. How did they sell a "race" schedul to OLN with less than 20 boats. APBA has its problems too, but the race guys demand that they get together to get some competition. 20 years ago when offshore racing ment offshore racing there were more boats. Who wants to see one or two boats per class, real hard to be named "clas champion". Get a life. Get together.

Mag27 06-16-2003 06:21 PM

Thanks Guys, means a lot to me right now.We had set Vixen up as a P4 boat again because of Pittmans 69 mph lap speed in Frt Myers and we knew that the 502 we run in APBA didnt have a chance.Throttle Up had redone a 26 prop for us at the last min.and that was our first chance to test it to see if we could get a little more exceleration then with the 28.I dont know if we could have beat him or not but if it was as flat as I heard on the outside I think it would have been the best P5 race of the year. MEL TEAM VIXEN

DanB 06-16-2003 06:42 PM

Hi Mel
I dont know what kind of problems your having, and I know you have plenty of help, but if you need somemore let me know and I'll be there. I can turn a good wrench. Us old guys got to stick together. You think you may go to SBI on the 4th? I'm not able to get the time to work with Screamin Eagle so if you need something let me know
Dan

Payton 06-16-2003 08:22 PM

Good luck Steve. I'm going to get the dates of those reaces and see if I can get to one of them.

Hope you get better and racing again soon Mell.
