Did Apache ever build a 41' Stepped bottom boat??? Wardey

BLee 06-25-2003 07:30 AM

no

Wardey 06-25-2003 07:39 AM

Thanks, That's what I thought. There are some 41 molds for sale and they are calling them 41 Apache molds....They have 3 steps in them. As far as I know Apache didn't put steps in until their last design a year or so ago. Dave

vtec 06-25-2003 08:32 AM

I think Bob Saccenti was a partner in Newtech.

The partnership didn't last long.

Maybe he'll respond to this thread.

One more .....

BLee 06-25-2003 11:05 AM

The guts of the question was, did "Apache" build a stepped 41. Not Nu Tech, Commance, Cherokee, etc. That answer is no. The new 41 will have a stepped option from what they have said so far.

sean stinson 06-25-2003 01:00 PM

The boat you guys are talking about was a splashed 41 from the old Apache Racing Team boat (red, white, and blue graphics) that was made into a mold. They called it a Cigar and the first one did a very graceful barrel roll down from Ft Apache when first tested.

And yes you can still get a 41

Wardey,
Yes they're right. Steve Schmidt of Competitive Edge Marine has the canopy version of the Cigar boat for sale. It had big HP and did run pretty good (120 ish), it's just the #6's were WAY to high and they had no steering. I'm not sure if the one he has, was the one that rolled.

Wardey 06-26-2003 08:02 AM

Thanks Ben......Dave

The next question will be "who is apache?".

Does Mark Mcmanus still build boats with the Apache name? I think he owns the Apache Powerboats Trademark, and I assume Steve, and Bobby S. are licensing it.

Remember Mcmanus worked on the originals, just like Bobby Saccenti. If he builds one in the same mold, with the same style rigging, who cares what you call it.

vtec

sean stinson 06-26-2003 06:24 PM

McManus is Comanche and Mark McManus Superboats from what I understand these days. Bobby is Apache and I wont reopen the can of worms from there. But there is no licensing agreement between McManus and Bobby. Bobby is Apache.

WetKitty42 06-26-2003 10:48 PM

How does this whole Apache story go?

From the begining please...

Wardey 06-26-2003 10:57 PM

Now this is going to be a long thread.......Sorry guy's:crazy:   Dave

sean stinson 06-26-2003 11:04 PM

Well if you wanna know start with the Apache (What's in a name) part 1 thread then part 2 then part 3......that pretty much will sum it up with some drama, good history, and other juicy things......be ready to sit through about 80 pages of info though

New Tech was a Company that a guy from the Bahamas was the money man for with Bobby. There was an insert placed in the mold that was designed by a European Engineer. I know for a fact that there were three 36's with the step as I personally sold all three of them several years ago. One went to the Bahamas, one was sold to the Feds as a drug chaser boat, and the third went the Great Lakes Area.

At the time I remember that there was a triple 41 with diesels but am not sure if it was stepped or not.

When New-Tech dissolved the insert was not allowed to be used anymore by Apache (or whatever you want to call it)

Somewhere in my files I have a write up on what I believe I remember to be a fourth or fifth 36 that had Bobby Driving it.

The Bahamanian one won the Bahamian race in 2002. It was a 36 with 500 hp's and ran 82mph. Since then the boat has been re-powered by TNT with Chief Engines and is running close to 100.

sgrady 01-01-2004 10:56 PM

The 42 with triple Diesels was twin stepped.
