Question for those that change your own oil
After two season of changing the oil every 20 hours I have quite the collection of milk jugs filled with old oil.
What do you do with your old oil? |
Most quick oil change places will take it for nothing. The Valvoline place around the corner from me will take 5 gallons at a time per day. At the moment, I probably have about 20 gallons of the stuff!! Time to make a few trips I guess. I get 5 gallon buckets from work for free. We get grease in them, complete with a plastic liner so the bucket is clean when we are done with it, works out great. Anyone want a bucket?? :D

RECYCLE IT
Around here most all the stores will accept the oil and filters for free. I have never been asked for a receipt that I purchased it from that store either. I go to Pep Boys, Wal-mart, Auto zone or O'Reilley's! I would think you have one of thoses in your area!

Most land fills have a place for it, most of the time next to the battery and tire places.
|
I keep a couple of plastic 5 gallon gasoline cans marked "Waste Oil" and whenever one is filled I recycle the oil at any of the places listed above. A gas can is much tougher that a gallon jug and I would think less prone to leaking.

I fill 5 gal buckets that have lids. Most town recycling centers have a waste oil tank you can dump into for free.
|
Use it to kill weeds.:D
Actually what they said. |
Kragen Auto Parts accepts it too.
|
By law anyplace that sells oil has to take used oil.
|
My local communities have recycling places that allow self disposal. I have been doing that for many many years.
