Talked to Fast Eddie Simmons earlier today after the race. Unofficially he thinks he took fourth with Mark Henederson driving as a back up for his normal driver. He also heard that there is some kind of controversary about 1-3 finishing boats but then again that is racing.

Verizon, the phone company with a stranglehold on the North East market, reports increased activity in the 631 area code:

The answering devices at Kryptonite and Activator, makers of the fastest and second fastest boats of the F1 circuit, are recording rounds of requests for new boats. Calls will be returned Monday in the order they have been received.

John Coen of Superboat had to field calls by irate Superboat racers who demanded an answer to the age-old question: "Why are those guys faster than I?"

All in all, a great day for Long Island.

Catman: Well, if a friggin PX boat can nearly drown Typhoon in Daytona, then Randy should be entitled to a little aggressive operation. Jeez, the two class presidents are having a meeting with the principal....

By the way, guys, great reporting. This time we got the news nearly in real time. Our special thanks to our embedded correspondent Dan of F1-83.

As of 9 pm no second place has been awarded, and Typhoon has not been given a finishing place yet

Ok, the APBA-Offshore website now finally lists Randy as #2 in the race. They also claim that "as Typhoon looked to steal a victory, a kill switch came loose and shut off power to the new boat. "

Nonsense. They fought for the victory and the closed cooling system of their HP525 reared its ugly head. The computer sensed a overheat condition and shut the engine down within a couple of hundred feet of the finish line.
