My Valentine 1 has saved my butt many a times. Just last week on my way back to Dallas from Austin they had setup a trap with two officers. Every one passed the first and then sped back up, but I laid behind because the unit said that there was another one ahead. He caught two of the other cars that was in the pack about a mile or so later.
If you get one you will never get anything else.

Passport 8500 or Passport Solo S2 is the best deal according to www.radartest.com What it really boils down to is the fact that while many radar detectors are useless, the Passports offers the best protection at the best price point period.
If you get a ticket with a Escort Passport product, you would have gotten one with the Valentine also and vice versa. No radar detector will work in every instance. The Escort is a better value, easier to use, and provides end results that are hard to beat in the real world.
You will not find authorized discount Valentine or Escort stores. I do sell friends the Passport 8500 new in the box for $252.50 and the S2 for $282.50. You can put the left over cash towards a good laser jammer. I offer the Blinder, Shifter, and Diffuser. Remember that radar detectors cannot detect laser in time to slow down. Feel free to call me at (813)882-8477 if you would like a radar detector or other advice.

Valentine One beats them all !!! It however is not the cheapest.
Remember you get what you pay for !!!!
I just ordered another one today and am having my older unit upgraded. Once you use it and experience the level of performance plus the radar locating arrows, you will never leave home without it.

Go V1 or go home...
...I gotta agree on the V1 rave reviews. My V1 has paid for itself many times over. Before I bought, I check some of the BMW and Porsche forums, and they also agree that the Ka sensitivity on the V1 is superior.
V1 has consistantly beat the competition in the mags.
I'd be wary of radartest.com. Although it may seem impartial, it disagrees in many instances with the mags. Some mags even accused radartest.com of being owned and published by a manufacturer (see if you can guess which one by reading)- who knows.

boot....to answer your question about the batteries and how long they last. It is really hard to say..............no doubt the length of time used, so since it is for a few hours each way of the drive. My guess-ta-ment would be 48 hrs straight usage. The newer model the time is far more than the older model

Valentine 1 all the way!!!
I don't have one, yet, but several coworkers do and it's saved their butts many times.
BTW Mike Valentine was the original electronics engineer that designed the Escort/Passport brand detectors for Cincinati Microwave.
