OT. Radar detector ?
1 Attachment(s)
Mine just died .... I have to go to Texas Wednesday and I need a new one . I just ordered the Cobra 9860 . Seams to have all the goodies and the price is good too . $129 . It also has a built in compass .... WHat do you all think ? Anyone have one ? how's it work . I usualy buy Bell but have had problems with reliability . One I had fixed 4 times !!
Major ESD-9860 features include: · City/Highway · Voice alerts · Auto mute · Manual mute · 3-step dim/dark mode · Safety Alert · Strobe Alert · Smart Mute · Rear laser detection · VG-2 alerts |
All I hear is that Valentine is the best of the best of the best. Would not know first hand, as VA and DC are, what I believe to be, the only two places in US where they are illegal.

Valentine !!.........You will never go back
|
Hey Boot, had a passport, gave it to my dad, I have a Valentine, much better and with the arrows you always know in which direction the radar is coming.:D It truely is a great detector.
|
Solo S2...battery operated...take it with in any vehicle no hassles
|
Thanks guys ! Is there a model of the valentine ?
Enticer, How long do the batteries last ? that would scare me ! It's like my little walky talkys , I'm always adding batteries just because I don't want to have them not working ! We'll see how the cobra is for now . I just needed something fast and didn't want to gamble on wasting 3-4 hundred bucks on some crap ! Thanks !;) |
Boot, any car and driver, road and track or other auto mag has them advertised in there, Jeff

Radar Detectors
Valentine without a doubt. I have had most of the other top detectors and valentine is definitely worth the extra money. It has saved my butt many times. Also, I like the arrows, since I can tell whether they are behind me or in front.
|
valentine 1. there is no other. period. i have had one for over 6 years and i just keep getting it upgraded. my boss has had one for over 7 years and just keeps his upgraded. it never becomes obsolete.

Valentine best out It will detect multiple signals .
|
Valentine 1, it's the 6 drive of radar detectors.
|
My Valentine 1 has saved my butt many a times. Just last week on my way back to Dallas from Austin they had setup a trap with two officers. Every one passed the first and then sped back up, but I laid behind because the unit said that there was another one ahead. He caught two of the other cars that was in the pack about a mile or so later.
If you get one you will never get anything else. |
OK OK OK !!! I'll get one !! Thanks !
Now , How much $$$ and where is the best place to buy them ? I geuss I should have posted this a day earlier ...... Would have just gotten that one instead . joe |
Boot, you buy direct, pick up a auto mag, they will be in there, the toll free #1800-331-3030 or www.valentine1.com 399.00
|

Passport 8500 or Passport Solo S2 is the best deal according to www.radartest.com What it really boils down to is the fact that while many radar detectors are useless, the Passports offers the best protection at the best price point period.
If you get a ticket with a Escort Passport product, you would have gotten one with the Valentine also and vice versa. No radar detector will work in every instance. The Escort is a better value, easier to use, and provides end results that are hard to beat in the real world. You will not find authorized discount Valentine or Escort stores. I do sell friends the Passport 8500 new in the box for $252.50 and the S2 for $282.50. You can put the left over cash towards a good laser jammer. I offer the Blinder, Shifter, and Diffuser. Remember that radar detectors cannot detect laser in time to slow down. Feel free to call me at (813)882-8477 if you would like a radar detector or other advice. Andy |
Valentine One beats them all !!! It however is not the cheapest.
Remember you get what you pay for !!!! I just ordered another one today and am having my older unit upgraded. Once you use it and experience the level of performance plus the radar locating arrows, you will never leave home without it. |
Go V1 or go home...
...I gotta agree on the V1 rave reviews. My V1 has paid for itself many times over. Before I bought, I check some of the BMW and Porsche forums, and they also agree that the Ka sensitivity on the V1 is superior.
V1 has consistantly beat the competition in the mags. I'd be wary of radartest.com. Although it may seem impartial, it disagrees in many instances with the mags. Some mags even accused radartest.com of being owned and published by a manufacturer (see if you can guess which one by reading)- who knows. http://www.highperformancecars.com/hhangin/speedo.jpg |
boot....to answer your question about the batteries and how long they last. It is really hard to say..............no doubt the length of time used, so since it is for a few hours each way of the drive. My guess-ta-ment would be 48 hrs straight usage. The newer model the time is far more than the older model
|
Valentine 1 all the way!!!
I don't have one, yet, but several coworkers do and it's saved their butts many times. BTW Mike Valentine was the original electronics engineer that designed the Escort/Passport brand detectors for Cincinati Microwave. Valentine1.com |
Escort 8500
It's programmable/upgradable by dial in.
The V1 is great but has not been updated. RadarTest rates the Escort 8500 the best. Wannabe |
Valentine 1, is #1.
Car and Drivers test of all the major radar detectors, showed Valentine's graph comparison off the chart compared to all others. I don't now what technology they have, but it is the *#@%... |

I agree the V1 is the only way to go, but be careful if you intend on buying it on eBay. You need to make sure that you are not getting an older model V1 that is in need of an upgrade.
|
Just step up and buy a new V-1 direct. That way you do not have to worry about buying one that may not have the latest upgrades. You may also want to add the remote display. Works great in my cars.

Definately Valentine - I've had one since they first came out. As a couple people stated above - Buy a new one since it will have all the latest upgrades (most e-bay units are outdated). Valentine is constantly upgrading and you will not be able to live without the arrows and number counter.
|
I've used both I like them both I don't think you would go wrong with either
|
V1 is the best out there, Greg used to own Escort/Passport.
|
BOOT COBRA ????? I wondered who bought that cobra and uniden stuff you know better !!!!!!! thats k-mart special stuff please do go with either or the other two and use that uniden as a paper weight or tire chock ;) ;)
|
I have had escort Passport 7500 for 2 or three years and hasn't let me down once!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go with the 8500 or the Valentine. Especially if you speed much, pay the extra money and it will be worth it in the end :D |
Bobby D........:D :D
I agree....get the remote....Very nice to have My buddie fried his Valentine...Out of Warranty...his fault {fooling with some "illegal" stuff :D }.... He even told Mike Valetine what he did....They repaired it on the spot N/C !! |
I take it NO BODY likes VAlentine ??:D :D
Bobby D, :( :( Cobra can't be the worst ! I bought a case of no name radar detectors once . They had all the latest stuff in them . They cost me about $19 a peice . They worked better then any of my friends radars did including escort,(which I had 2 of) , bell, cobra, & uniden. We often ran 2 vehicles on trips and always compared which one did what . I can't beleive they worked at all ! We'll see how my "tire chock" , I mean , Cobra works this week on my trip . :D |
GOOD LUCK JOE ALL THIS ELECTRONIC JUNK
|
Bobby , I didn't just buy them , it was a couple years ago . I gave most of them away and people loved them . the rest I sold or used myself . The last one just died . Did I mension they are diposables !?!?:D

The Passport 8500s and S2s that I sell are brand new A quality still in original shrink wrap. With Passport, you will get all the performance that a radar detector can offer. The $150 savings can be used to put gas in your boat. BTW, I got a radar speeding ticket on the Intracoastal Waterway this weekend. Manatee speed zone was 25mph and I got clocked crawling at 46. Maybe we should put radar detectors on our boats too.
THe Passport 8500 works awesome, rates best at radartest.com and is a better value. There is no ticket that the Passport would not detect that could be detected by the Valentine 1 or vice versa. My store sells about 30 Escort Passports every month and I never have unhappy customers. I personally have used both. The Passport get the job done as well for less money. I my book, why spend more if you can get the job done. Either it picks up radar well or it doesnt. It either falses excesively or it doesnt. THe 8500 does the job as well as it is going to get. |
