Boat crash seriously injures two passengers
By JAMES SGRO1

Six people were injured in a boating accident Saturday when a boat named Perseverance crashed into the south jetty at the mouth of the Merrimack River.
The boat was operated by owner Paul Goguen, 32, of 180 Willard Road, Ashburnham, who according to the Coast Guard, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The Coast Guard launched a helicopter from Cape Cod, which transported Jeneen Moran, 29, of Oakham and her husband, Dean, 31 to Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, where they were treated for serious injuries. The hospital could not release the status of the Morans.
A spokesman for the Coast Guard said that along with alcohol, poor judgment and poor navigation were also factors in the crash.
Goguen was given a summons by police on Saturday for charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injuries.
Four of the six people that were on the craft sustained minor injuries and were taken back to the Coast Guard station Merrimack River in Newburyport, where they were transported to Anna Jaques to be treated. A spokesman for the Coast Guard said that the incident is still under investigation.

I boated out of the inlet many times. It can get pretty rough there. Some swells and an outgoing tide coming out of the inlet can easliy double or sometimes triple the size of the swells. Don't think it was a factor that day though. People do some times try to sneak around the side to avoid the huge swells.
