# of boats on LOTO

I heard a radio station this past weekend say that there were some 70,000+ boats on the lake during normal weekends....

Anyone know is this number is accurate or not....I know the MO Water Partol lists numbers of 100's of thousands of boats registered in MO and LOTO makes up for 1/3 of them....but anyone know if the number of actual boats either on the lake or which 'harbour' at the lake full time?

70,000 sounds like a lot to be active on the lake on a normal weekend. That would be about a third of all boats here at the lake being out, there are a lot of multiple boat and watercraft owners. I just can't imagine it is that high. But I am sure someone counted them.
That may be the number of "sorties" over a weekend including people that take a half hour trip or something.

There are also a lot of boats here registered out of state like IL, KS and IA. People register at home rather than where the boat is used to most so the actual number of boats kept at the lake is probably higher

It is over 500,000 registered in Mo. now. At least that is what the KC Star claims.

Troutly....I wouldn't be too sure.....hell, on holiday weekends...the water traffic is terrible!...and the lake is 94 miles long after all!...

Hell, at night on holiday weekends (after bar time)......it's so busy I'm trying to dodge boats constantly while driving!!

Last year when we were down there an article in the local paper said they took a count of boat traffic under the bridge at Hwy 54. The article was about the no-wake zone enacted last year. They counted 10,000 boats traveling under the bridge. I believe it was one day's traffic during Memorial Day weekend. Of course almost everyone going to Party Cove goes under the bridge at least twice in one day. Speaking of numbers, here's one for Nort! I sent my parents a postcard of the aerial shot of Party Cove with all the boats tied together. Well, my Dad has way to much time on his hands. He divided the postcard into sub-sections by taping thread over the picture. He then used a magnifying glass and counted the boats in each square and tallied the total number of boats on the postcard! He said the total number of boats was right about 1200 as I recall!!! I don't know if it's patience or boredom that would drive my dad to count all those boats, but I was impressed at the number. Steve

If there are 70,000 boats, how many gallons of fuel is that? How many beer cans? How many breasts?

Von Bongo 07-14-2003 05:01 PM

And last weekend there were no accidents reported!!!

509 SC: Are you sure your dad was just "counting boats," and not looking for girls getting beeds?
