Default OT: Get another guide dog or ????

As some of you know, I've been raising a Guide Dog Puppy as a volunteer for the past 10-11 months. His name is Barney and he is set to go back to the foundation for further training in the next few weeks (or less). Now, the foundation (and a girl I'm seeing) would like me to raise another one for another year. But, I was thinking of possibly just getting my own dog or taking some time off and waiting to see if he fails, in which case I would be able to adopt him (the course is about 8 months and up to 75% FAIL).

What do you guys think?

God Bless you for doing a great thing for people raising a guide dog. We've had dogs that flunked out of guide dog school and they were great. I don't know that I could do it, I'm pretty sure I love my dam mutt more than anybody or anything else. Nearly went to jail, when the dumb kid on my block almost hit her. If you can do keep doing it, if you can't get yoursellf your own dog.

I'm really torn. Part of me wants to wait to see if he fails, while hoping he passes. But, that is going to be a long 8 months. I don't necessarily want to get a dog on my own right away only to find out that I can adopt Barney, as I live in an apartment in NYC and cannot have 2 dogs (building policy plus lack of space for 2 full-size dogs). I also don't want to be without a dog as it is going to be a strange adjustment going from having a dog who can go everywhere I can go by law to having no dog. So, it's a tough call.

Love to hear more opinions.
