Anybody hear about a 30+ foot Cigarette catching on fire around NYC yesterday?

Here is some info I found.

so much for on board HALON

GLH 07-15-2003 09:27 PM

Would Halon be on a '76 boat if not updated???

Peconic 07-15-2003 09:32 PM

Well, if gas fumes explode, no halon in the world will save you - didn't say he had any anyway.

And those "good samaritans" look awfully like a Vessel Assist towboat. He'll probably have a honking salvage bill coming right up.

Yeah, That was a problem that they had with them back in 76..Its called a "Loaded Cigarette"

"Vagle's 1976 Cigarette boat - which had a narrow front designed for speed - was destroyed"
BTW...I thought Fountains where the only ones with the narrow front's designed for speed. ;)

Not to make light of this, but long time boater told me once if your boat catches fire dont panic but follow these instructions. Calmly get every one a life jacket then get your passengers in order and quickly enlist a trustworthy calm person to help you carefully grab the ice chest and set it in the water with out turning it over. You then exit the boat and swim away with the cooler. The point being, you may not only need water but a cold beer is what your gonna need while watching your boat burn to the water line.

Perhaps the "narrow front end designed for speed" helped those 1976 boats hit "100 mph" ;)

Troutly, dont you know that stuffs flamable. You throw it out first, real far and that gives you not only a little extra time, but a good target to swim for.
