Can Anyone Help Me?
 

It seems that my long relationship with my trusty Formula 292SR1 may be coming to a close. My wife (who's not much of a boater) wants me to get more of a "family" boat:( :eek: ! So, in trying to obtain the best of both worlds, I've been entertaining a 28 or 31' Sea Ray SunSport. I've driven the 28 with a pair of 300HP 5.7L's and it moves pretty well. I really wonder if any of y'all have compared that boat to a comparable Formula 280SS.

MORE IMPORTANT however, is the 31 Sea Ray Sunsport. I know they were only produced from 1992-1995 with anywhere from a pair of 330's to 415's. I like the layout, and the looks of this boat but I really have NO IDEA how it performs and if it'll meet my expectations with 365's or 415's. Can any of my friends on OSO give some real time experiences with one of these?? Oh, it only has a 9'4" beam so it should be trailerable.

I know!!!:) But 3 kids later, things change....

The wife said sell it and get your dream boat...I said I already have it!! Of course that went over like a lead balloon:p :D

A freind of mine has a 31 foot super sunsport with two 454 mags. He sees about 54-55 mph.

ROGER1, have you been on it? Did it get on plane quickly? What did you think??

In my humble opinion I think you shoudl opt to go to the 330 Sun Sport Formula it has enough of both worlds to keep you happy and last I checked was still afordable and alot of boat for the money. It also performs quite well in terms of speed and handling. I have seen 55 out of a couple of these with some of the middle of the road engine options. Check it out. You are also going to have some good incentives from Formula and it's a better quality boat in my eyes.

Well I am a die hard Formula guy, but the 330SS would not be trailerable in my state (max 10' wide load w/ permit), that's on e of the reasons for Sea Ray (9'4"). I'm also assuming I can pick one up for a better deal than a Formula, but the main reason is the trailer issue. I could never bottom paint my boat!!!!!

I think the Formula is still better as you do too.

Check out a CHAPARRAL 2835 SSI . 60 mph with twin 350/300hp, trailable and thru hull exhuast when on plane.
