Worlds’ Largest Poker Run Revs Up for 10th Anniversary

Lake Lanier Islands, GA - - Plans are underway for the biggest party yet as Lanier Harbor Marina celebrates its 10th Anniversary of the Worlds’ largest Poker Run. The event, slated for August 8th & 9th, 2003, will award a $10,000 Cash Prize to the best Poker Hand, and that will not be the only winner of the day.
In fact, every boat that starts the event, to benefit the Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center and the North Alabama and Georgia Make-A-Wish® Foundation, will get a chance to win a Yamaha Wave Runner courtesy of Park Marine. There will also be first, second and third place trophies for Go Fast Boat, Pontoon and Cruiser categories, with a Grand Prize Formula FasTech powerboat for a winning five of a kind poker hand.
"This event is not about speed, it’s about pure boating fun and it’s for the kids," said Barkley Geib, organizer for the Poker Run and owner of Lanier Harbor Marina. Last year the event awarded over $20,000.00 to the charities alone, and continues this year as an American Poker Runs Association event as well as a stop on the 2003 Child SMILE America Tour.
Geib says this years Poker Run will also feature a Las Vegas Style Casino Gaming Night that includes even more prizes than ever. In fact, the opportunity exists to win a 2004 GMC Yukon XL valued at $50,000 and a 2004 Pontiac Gran Prix valued at $30,000, all courtesy of John Bailey Buick GMC.
"The actual gaming is done with play money which is traded in for raffle tickets. At the Friday Night Casino Party, we will pull a raffle ticket at 8:00pm and that winner will get a chance to pick from our "Ace in the Hole" game. If they pick the bag with a black Ace of Spades, they win the GMC Yukon XL. If they don’t pull the winning card, then another raffle ticket winner will be drawn at 9:00pm for their chance to win. If no winning card is pulled, one final entrant will be picked at 10:00pm."
At 10:00pm, another contest will be played, this time for a chance to win the 2004 Pontiac Gran Prix. The game, Seven-Card-Stud, operates just like the Price Is Right on television. One raffle ticket will be drawn, and that winner will get the chance to compete for the car. First, they are handed Seven Cards or basically, seven chances to guess the correct price, shown by five digits in order. For example, the vehicle price is $50,762. with the first digit being 5. If the contestant guesses the number 3, they would be off by two digits and would turn in two cards.
Geib says that the Seven-Card-Stud game continues down the line until the 5th or last digit. If after guessing that, the contestant has at least one card left, they win the car. "Imagine coming by boat and leaving by car. It’s totally mind blowing and we haven’t even hit the water yet," Geib laughed.
As for the actual Poker Run itself, 200 boats will travel Lake Lanier to pick up their clues and cards, in anticipation of coming in with the best Poker Hand, and in hopes of winning that $10,000.00 first place prize.
At the Awards Banquet that night, a randomly drawn hand will also be revealed and if anyone's hand from the day matches that hand exactly, they will win $25,000.00 Cash, courtesy of John Bailey Buick GMC.
"Actually, everyone who enters is a winner because it’s for the kids of our charities. The entry fee of $150.00 includes two tickets to the Casino Night, the Poker Run itself and two tickets to the Awards Banquet. The Captain of each boat gets a goody bag full of gifts from our sponsors and at the end of it all we give $10,000.00 to each charity. Now that’s a really great ending to a great event."

Been waiting 2yrs for my last 2 yrs of Video's Not once have i been notified they were on the way..i did see long time ago video's from last yrs was about to be mailed out.. Damn who shot the carrier piegon.?.. Not that the $ i spent for entering and that included the video's meant anything to me it's the principal of if you promised something in a package..why isn't it delivered..? can someone over look me 2 straight yr's..?
