28' Signature Offshore
Hey out there, I'm new to this website and have a question...I own a 28' Signature Offshore model, powered by 3 200 hp Mercury motors, on a paralift jackplate. All motors run nose cones and low water pick ups, 280s K-planes, the center motor is a 25" counter rotating and the two outside motors are 20" right hand units. Its a solid 70mph boat with 26" round ear choppers on the outside and a 28" round ear in the middle. It seems to run higher rpms in the center if I run the same pitch wheel as the 2 outer motors, do you think this is because the center motor isnt biting as "clean" water as the outers? How can I get some more speed out of this boat without sacrificing reliability? Lastly does anyone know of any history about these boats, I know they were originally built by Don Aronow in Miami...does any body else own one of these?

Hey Forget!! Welcome to oso,its a great site. I have the same combo,30 velocity,tripps,lefty in the middle,bu i run 26s on all three. The motors are on the transom and there is a 6 inch notch also. It goes 70 wiyh stock motors,they are gonna stay like that,cause i want to cruise,not fix!!! Tripple trouble applies here!! They are fun to run,I know there are alot of faster boats with twins,300s, but i can get stock 200s,pretty cheap and bolt them on. That signature is a nice boat,kinda like a Hustler Good luck Tripps

hey Tripps, nice to hear from you...that picture caveman sent in IS me! He took it 2 weekends ago off Jamestown RI Glad to know someone else feels the same way, I'd rather run them at 5200 rpm than blow em up at 6000plus. Boating season is too short to lose time with breakdowns. My paralift gives 16 inches of setback, plus the motors are on spacers for an extra 4 on the outsides, 8" in the center. Do you run the same shaft lengths as me?

Signature were built on 188 th Street next door to Cigarette. Tom Adams owned the Co. and raced a 38' called "Spirit of America" back in 1976 (Bicentenial year). There were also a number of 27 Raceboats, "Crazy Greek", "Lady L", "Aft R U" and "Adios Gringo". They also built a 32', which looked like a prenant pig (alot of freeboard and a bubble deck) The Signature boat factory later became "Pantera" boat factory. Like Aronow, the owner was murdered.
Aronow had nothing to do with "Signature".

Yes I run 20s outside and 25 inside,at 6000 rpm=70 I usually run 4000 to 4800 for crusin. Does this happen to you? my outside port motor runs about 200 rpm higher than the others? Lefthand propwash? Anybody? Tripps

Right on! Robert,
You summed up the signature story accurately. My uncle owned and raced the 27' Crazy Greek before moving up to a 32-33 Cobra ( I believe it was a very similar hull to the powerplay)
However I don't remember the 32 having a bubble deck. The aqua toy store has/had offerred a 32 for a while maybe they still have it on consignment with pics on the website. I thought the 32 was a streched 27 so they could add a back seat. Most 27 signatures had that small cockpit obviously with the exception for outboard boats.
