He is definitely and inspiration to millions. Best wishes Lance! (like he reads OSO!);) :) Imagine that he has done this AFTER surviving testicular cancer!

GLH 07-22-2003 08:58 AM

He kicked German butt yesterday followed it online. I use to race in College but I could never climb worth the crap!

cigarette1 07-22-2003 09:31 AM

Lance is the man

I used to ride a lot in the 60's,70's and 80's. Did a lot of mountain bikeing in the late 80's and early 90's.

If you don't have hills (or mountains  ) in your ride, you are just posing :D

Still have some of my bikes.

i wanted to strangle the frog that tripped him up yesterday. the frogs hate him why? because he kicks the frogs ass at their own sport. lance is an american hero.

I have always wondered why the spectators or the camera men on little mopeds are so close.

Seems like they would get in the way if someone was trying to pass or something leading to aggressive driving or riding in this case.

Also seems like an accident waiting to happen in which a spectator would get hurt.

i loved racing! pictured here with Jonas Carney of Subaru in a breakaway.

Indy 07-22-2003 11:56 AM

I raced for the USCF (United States Cycling Federation) for years, albiet nowhere near Lance's level, but I can understand the man's mentality and physical prowess. Very difficult sport to participate in, even more to be successful.

However, it ain't over 'till it's over, he has a strong challenger pushing him, but that's what's going to make him even better.

audacity 07-22-2003 12:09 PM

indy...ever do superweek? there's another cool stage race in killington...back then we used to have the tour de michigan 10 day stage race....always a good $$ maker.

Go Lance Go!!!!!

Indy 07-22-2003 12:43 PM

Audacity...I pretty much stuck to the northeast and mid-Atlantic races. Never did Killington, but there was some stage races in Mass I participated in. Mostly one day road races and criteriems. Fun times, I loved the anticipation at the beginning of a race, only to have all the butterfly's dissapear once you tightened up your straps (remember straps? I guess that dates me  )

audacity 07-22-2003 01:00 PM

yes i do remember the straps...i road track as well...didn't take too long and i had a contract with Time....woohoo...clipless pedals! i was just a punk kid that grew up in a bike shop.

i loved the last lap! all the pushing, crashing and bashing. i kept a lot of my stuff...we used to trade clothing with all the european teams...i have bags of it still.

do ya have any pixs indy????

Amazingly, he lost 15lbs in the 47km individual time trial the day before entering the Pyrenees and still came in second severely dehydrated...he's an animal!

audacity 07-22-2003 01:19 PM

Indy 07-22-2003 01:34 PM

I got pics, but no scanner. But the memories are what I like the best...geez, I was in great shape back then  It was amazing how fast we could blast up the hills with those tiny gears in the back!!! I couldn't push those gears downhill these days LOL :p Seems like you were a cat 1 or 2?

cigarette1 07-22-2003 01:38 PM

My son won Gold in the USCF Jr Regional in '86 on the Velodrome at Cal State Dominguez Hills as a 9 year old.

audacity 07-22-2003 01:44 PM

audacity 07-22-2003 01:55 PM

Joe, sorry to say, but they don't do much bike riding where he is now :( .... it's a long sad story. I'll tell you about it one day.

Oh yeah, I am old

I didn't mean to dis' track riders. I had my son training on the Encino Velo, but I never tried the track .... very hairy ride with no brakes and no freewheeling

My comment was strictly for the road riders

Glenora 07-22-2003 06:35 PM
