Need a little advice

Hey everyone,

My Dad bought a boat last year, and we've been working on it, but ran into a slight problem. He's boat is a 22 ft Four Winns, and it's about 16 yrs old. Everything is in great shape, except the darker color of the finish. The paint job has faded some what, and we are trying to get it looking better without having to get it painted. Is there anything we can try that might help brighten it up a bit? Thanks in advance.

Is it painted already or is is the dark color gel coat???

Wet sand with 1200 grit and then then a lot of high speed buffing working down from coarse compunds to very fine.

start sanding lightly with the 1200,then work up towards 2000,and then a heavy duty rubbing compound, and then a polish to remove your swirl marks, and then keep it waxed!!!!!

Do what Offshore Add said, but then hit it with McGuire's 3 step....cleaner, polish and wax. Or Use Pro Wax or Diamond 55.

You won't beleive how much different it will look....

It's a dark blue gel coat. So if we use sand paper wouldn't it ruin the finish? If so, what can we do from there? We used a fine white rubbing compound last week and it didn't do any thing. Should we try a heavy rubbing compund and then buff it out?

The gel finish should be pretty thick but if you see you're starting to go through it will usually be in the area of a corner or crease line. Everyone has given you the best advice you can use when it comes to buffing. Remember when buffing to keep the pad clean and don't dig in or it will create swirls or burn marks. If that happens you have to start the process all over again. Good luck and if you need add'l info PM me with questions.
