Extreme -v- Fountain.....
 

Yesterday I'm on my way back up from the Key's when I get a call on my cell from Mr. Spates. It seem's the 39 Extreme beat the Fountain in the S.B.I. Kilos and in Reggie's back yard !!!! The Extreme ran 117.4 mph and the Fountain ran 116. This thread is not to bash any Fountains but I am just glad Extreme is getting recognized !!!! Wardey

When you consider how the Extreme is built, and the speeds they are capable of, it's only a matter of time before the checkered flags start piling up.

I am sorry crichdsn but you are incorrect. I am the person who sold the very first 39 Extreme back in 1999. Also I raced and crewed with the team. We were the guinea pigs and are very happy that Mark Spates is finally in the lime light! :D

From everyone I've ever spoken with that has raced a Hull that Mark Spates has built (Including Bob Teague) they have all said he is the BEST V-Hull builder in the world, and the only reason a few of them are still alive !!!

It`s not a negitive thing, Its just the fact that the boat has not won a race ,its got some great speed but not a winner .

It sure has led a number of races this year only to be struck by gremlins. It is only a matter of time before the win. The MUSCLE boat is a SKATER by the way it was the last boat they built. Of course Fountain just "DID" the bottom on it, but where did that go in Sarasota?

Not to knock Extreme, but Bob Teague had one a couple years ago and couldn't keep it from going upside-down during races. He has sold the boat and is back in a Fountain. They might go fast in a straight line, but the race course tells the full story.

Mark definately builds an incredible boat; Extreme's are fast, strong, stable and resilient. I don't know too many other boats that can withstand being run over by a 40 some odd foot Scarab and continue on to win a World Championship.

That Performance Marine paint job was one of the best I've ever seen.

Oh and Mark built Mr Technology when he worked with Phantom. Great guy, great builder.

dave, revive the 29 pleasure thread with some pics when you get the chance. the 39 has some of the best lines i've seen. it's a sweet looking boat. it's good the hear the R&D is paying off and the hull is hauling ass.

I was waiting to see how long until someone posted a picture of Steve's Manatee (I mean Extreme).

Dredge, I'll download some pic's from my camera and post them later on the 29 thread. The Switch, 39 Extreme was 13 seconds behind the Firewater boat. Second place to me is pretty impressive since the boat has not been totaly dialed in yet. That 117.4 was on Merc prop's !!! There's still more speed to get out of this boat. let me correct myself,ettore did major changes to both extremes they owned.they tried everyting to make that boat stay flat in the water,added strakes,removed center pad and v'd the hull all the way to transom which it wasnt on ettore's boat now it is on switch's boat.extreme hull has had to many problems.did anyone watch the ft meyers race on oln this weekend?inboard shots of switch prove the boat chine walks.at high speeds.it has not proven itself against fountain or other manufactuers.i am basing my thoughts on experience of being there when all this was taking place.ihave watched ettore deal with the problems of that boat for years,now they have a fountain,if extreme was so good THEY WOULD STILL OWN ONE!

Every step V-Hull manufacture has had growing pains with there stepped hull designs. If you think Reggie just built the first one and it ran perfect the first time out you better WAKE UP! Donzi has had boats flip Fountain has had boats roll over. Hustler,Extreme,Formula and the list goes on and on. As with everything products get better with time and research and development. Did you ever here the saying? Don't buy the first year of anything? Be it a Microwave oven to a stepped bottom V-Hull.:rolleyes:

I did not said EXTREME does not win race`s . Just SWITCH has not be a winner like FOUNTAIN BOAT`S has in SUPER V.

I watch the FT MYERS race this weekend on tv ,The boat was all over the place . YES the boat needs to be dialed in .

i heard he had curtains made for his office. well, maybe not, but he should be able to with the flags he has laying around.

Switch was chine-walking on Sunday. It did pull in Firewater a little bit, but never could catch them and Muscle looked like they would've run away from both of them if they hadn't broken down.
