Any ideas to help sell my boat???

I've been trying to sell my 26' Baha Cruisers Mach1 boat now for some time and haven't had one person call or look at it. I advertise it here and in the boat shopper and it is currently in the Salty Dog. I'd like any comments to help me adjust the ad or my price to what might bring in a serious buyer. I know that the boat is an off brand and not a serious offshore boat, but it is still a nice boat. Is it the brand that is keeping people away?? My ad? My price?? I'd appreciate any of your thoughts. Thanks....

NADA on the boat with options is 28-34k and the trailer is low of 3340 to 3790 for a 26' tandem, 28 tandem is 3885 to 4410. The trailer is a 26-28 model. Not sure which nada value applies here.

Is asking price of 29,000 to high?

I've attached a picture and here is the link to my ad on offshore...

I would think 29K is a good asking price.

mpally 08-03-2003 06:12 PM

That is a reasonable price. Mach 1's are not very well known boats. Many of them are seen at LOTO, but not much elsewhere. There is another member on here( I forget his name) that is also having problems selling his 29 Mach 1 and it is even at LOTO. I think that some of the problem is a result of some of the 29's being underpowered. A 454 in your 26 is a decent powerplant and I would not consider your boat underpowered. Good luck.

You'll get a little better visability on Boattrader.com. Thats where I sold mine last month.

Good Luck!

I've sold a couple of boats, on www.dallasboats4sale.com the last one I sold went to Indiana, Trent is a nice guy and an OSO member, tell him I refered you if you try it, it cost 40 dollars till sold

Would boattraderonline work for me? Boattrader is a search engine based on manufacturer. If I had a popular brand boat, I might be more apt to go that route. I've been using the boat sales magazines in our area with color photos...

sean stinson 08-04-2003 06:41 AM

Do you want to sell it so you can step and they're trying to hammer you on trade value?

sean stinson 08-04-2003 06:42 AM

Ever consider putting it on EBay also?

East Coast B 08-04-2003 06:48 AM

I tried ebay, nothing... Got a few calls from people wanted to try and sell it for me...

Thanks for the suggestions.... keep them coming....

The last 2 boats I've purchased were through boattrader online. Neither one was a major brand name. I found them by using thier browser option for a nearby state.

You may want to consider them.

I've had my very upgraded 1994 26' Thoroughbred for sale here for close to a year and three times now in Boattraderonline with very little response. None of the inquiries I've gotten have been serious. I've gone from $37,900 to $34,900 and now just looking for a reasonable offer. Still no response. I'm told that not many boats are selling. It certainly makes me wish I was buying, there's a lot of nice boats for sale for very reasonable money.

Good luck.

You didn't answer my main question though. Are you trying to get rid of it to step up?

SSComp 08-04-2003 10:19 AM

I know what you mean.
I have had my boat for sale for 2 years now and no serious responses. Just brokers and people interested in the engines.

Most people that have rode on it or seen it can't belive the bang for the buck. At the price it is at I'll keep it. It doesn't help the area we are in is really economically hurting.

I've tried:

Powerboat magazine
Traderonline (5 runs)
OSO
Website below

http://home.neo.rr.com/bajalion/

If I really want to sell it I'll find an OSO member who wants a great set of engines, swap, and sell for the defference.

Sorry, missed your first post...

Yes, we want to step up to a bigger boat in the near future. We'll be looking at something in the 1-2 year old used range likely from the private sector. We want to sell this one and wait out some possible job changes this fall. If all goes well, we'll be in the market for a bigger unit.

olysan 08-04-2003 10:55 AM

That's a great looking boat. I think that you're a victim of a tough market. Boats in the 28'+ range are such a steal right now that you can't sell smaller boats without giving them away. Just look at the 28 SS thread, that's a lot of boat for a small premium over what you're asking. Good Luck!

ofshore 08-04-2003 11:34 AM

You'll probably have an even harder time selling it now that boating season like here in MI is at least half over. I listed my other boat at about this time last year and didn't receive one call untill this spring.

THEJOKER 08-04-2003 11:38 AM

I always cut the price so I loose atleast $ 20,000 and they usually sell! BH

Shorty 08-04-2003 01:18 PM

I don't think that price is out of line at all. It's a good boat, actually built pretty darn well, just not a real well known brand. They don't make that many a year.

I've got a 29' Mach1. Overall, I've been happy with mine. It's a great boat for LOTO. I have tried to sell it off and on a couple times, but never real "seriously". It had fit my needs and budget nicely. Part of me wanted to sell, part of me is pretty attached to it.

But, I'm finally ready to move up. I'm going to put it on the market seriously in the next week or so, as time permits. It will be serious this time, and I am confident by spring I'll be in something else. (I even changed my OSO screen name! Now that's serious! :p )

Just stay with it, the right buyer will come along. Heck, I might not even sell mine to the wrong buyer. It ain't going if it's not to a good home!! I don't want to see anyone trash it!!!

Try a broker who knows his chit. If he can talk shop and understands what you are talking about when you talk power and drive, hull and construction, chances are he will do a better job selling. There are a few good ones out there. If you in PA, I would try one at the Jesey Shore

I can't even give mine away

Low Rider 08-04-2003 03:11 PM

One way to help people see your boat on boattrader is to use the names of other manufacturers in your add. "If you are looking for a Baja or Checkmate then consider my Mach 1". When people are searching for the other boats your add will also appear in their search. That is how I found the boat I purchased, I was considering a Fountain and because of the way the add was written I went with another brand when it appeared during one of my searches for a Fountain. The pictures of your boat look great, it should sell soon.

Good Luck
John

Thanks for all your input folks!!! Sounds like it's a soft market problem..... I'll wait out the next few editions of the Salty dog NJ edition that it's currently in and then try putting it in the Chesapeake edition and knock a little more off the price. Else we'll just wait for spring!!!

Happy boating!!! !

Didn't you just buy that boat? Why are you selling so soon?

East Coast B 08-05-2003 05:53 AM

I purchased it new in June or July of 2000, I'm the first owner. This is our 4th season with it. We've outgrown it, time to move up for weekending needs.

CAP071 08-05-2003 06:07 AM

Hey DAVE M Yes I just bought it. I have to get something Bigger. The boat is great I just need something bigger
