Facts (or opinions) on early 502 Mag MPI's

I'm looking at a 1993 32 Caliber Baja with 502 EFI Mags. The guy says they are the original engines. Did they even make these in 1993? If so, are they the same as todays 502 EFI's or did Merc change them over the years?
