...I know in the mid to late 1980's CIG made the 24' FIREFOX model (I saw it at one of the Florida boat show(s))...Did CIG make any other length(s) FIREFOX???...Did CIG make a 28' boat/hull other than the FIREFOX???...Does the name IMPERIAL boats mean anything to any of you guyz???...

As far as I know the Only 28 hulls that Cig made were the 28ss wich I have, and the 28 open. If you want to know more about the Firefox and the 28 hulls then check out www.thunderboatalley.com it is an awesome site ran by OSO's Sean. The site is packed with tons of info on all the classic Aronow hulls.

here is a pic of my 28 ss

What Thillseeker said! Sean's site would be the one to look at.

Hey Thill, hows the Cig running?

THRILLSEEKER 08-05-2003 01:31 PM

rebar, I had it out for the first time last weeked since I got the port engine back together and its running great, now hopefully it stays that way:cool:

Here is a link with some photos but very little info. I think I have a brochure in my materials somewhere. They made both a 24 and a 20 ft
Hope this helps,
Bob

Do you ever go down to LOTO? If so, maybe we can hook up sometime.

There was a line of boats at one time named Imperial, but if I remember correctly they were fairly generic family boats. However there was a company called IMP boats that made a fairly agressive "offshore type" boat during the 80s. There were a few of them here on Lake Ontario and I remember them as be very stout and solid "Dick Butkis" kind of boats.
Hope this helps,
Bob

I could be wrong but I think IMP was related to imperial And the boat around that size that looked like the firefox a little was the 23 eleganza. there was also a 25 and a 30 but the 25 looked more like a sport cruiser kinda like a nova. Again I'm not real sure if any one can verify please do.

cbdragon 08-05-2003 04:28 PM

There is only one model/brand Firefox. 24 Cigarette. If your asking about Cigarette type hulls there are similar but not the real thing. The Firefox was a deck change to the 24 hull which was in the Cigatette model range with a flat type deck. Craig

Imperial bought the molds for the 27 squadron from Cigarette and made them for a couple of years. Mostly with a single engine set up. I rode in one with a 454 and it barely hit 50mph. But the engine was tired and the boat was waterlogged. Looks like a cig but certainly not built like one.

HEY JGB....BINGO!!!...That is the story I got from someone who is selling one!!!...It definitely is the same "bottom" design as a CIG, but the lines & the serial#'s threw me...The #'s begin with an "A" & end in an 87...At first I thought it was an AVANTI, then the guy gave me the "story"?!?!?...It is an AWFULLY nice looking, well cared for boat...The lines really caught my eye...It looks as though it is a "cut-down" lower mold...Like you said it DOES have a 454/370hp w/TRS drive...Do you think because the #'s start with "A" that it could be something other than an IMPERIAL...???...AVANTI...APACHE...any ideas???...THANX for the "clues" boyz...

mikev 08-06-2003 01:07 PM

check ou this site if you have the hid this will tell you who made it.

JGB 08-06-2003 01:13 PM

Yup, starts with "A" but the rest slips my mind. The name of the company that manufactured imperials did sound very generic. Something like "all season" or something like that.

I took a look at one in ohio. I loved the look! The one I saw looked great and clean but after a survey was performed it was found to be waterlogged. Very nice lines though. GL

If you do a search on boatraderonline.com , you can find a couple 27 cig squadrons though they normally don't refer to them as squadron 12s.

JGB 08-06-2003 01:41 PM

glad I could help.

Caincando1 08-06-2003 02:42 PM

Cig did make the 24 Firefox, about (1) per year up to, I beleive 2001. Here is a pic of the Firefox we raced in 2001. It belonged to Steve Miklos and now Adib Mastry has it. Dave Warden

Wardey 08-07-2003 01:50 PM

and Imperial Boats......Stay Away from !!! They are junk. I had one in the 80's, I beleive a 220XL or something like that. Wood floor and all. Dave

Velocitoy,

Take close look at how that IMP Cig in ohio is constructed. The cig/squadrons have 15" tall full length stringers with three full bulkheads up under the bow, full bulkhead behind rear seat, and two more under cockpit area, "egg crated" in the engine compartment - with the low sides they are really needed if you want to abuse it. That boat was for sale about a year ago for 10 grand. Now it's 15?? whats up with that?? I considered it briefly as a project, but after using 15 gallons of epoxy, yards of cloth, and countless hours rebuilding an old excalibur up to my standards, I decided never again, and now own the white squadron that JGB showed you. Here's the one in OHIO for the rest of you. This thing does have a "cabin" and is probably fine as long as you don't want to make it go fast in rough water....... just my opine....

Hang Time 27 12-28-2003 11:31 PM

Uh oh, I might have messed up. Just applied for a gold membership because I can't check the pic JGB posted. If it's the one with the stripe down the side its not mine. The picture description looked familiar. Sorry if I got it wrong.

Cigarette only made a 24' Firefox. Expensive, solid, heavy duty boat. Stay away from Imperial!
