14 year old dies on waverunner
Watercraft Collision Off Wildwood Kills Teen
by KYW's John McDevitt
A 14-year-old boy is dead after the Waverunner personal watercraft he was a passenger on collided with another in the backwaters off Wildwood.
The boy is identified as John Lord of South Philadelphia. After the accident he was rushed to a hospital, but died of his injuries a short time later.
New Jersey State Police Sgt. Michael Murray says it was about 1:30 Monday afternoon when water rescue crews were called to the scene of what turned out to be a deadly accident in Cape May County:
"We had two Waverunners which collided in Ottens Basin, which is located in Wildwood, in Middle Township."
There was no immediate word on whether either or both of the drivers of the water crafts were licensed to operate them -- as is required by New Jersey law
