Question Why is a Cigarette better than a Fountain?

I have this friend who thinks Fountains are better because they have a better racing record... I'm new to this Power Boating Sport and need some help on some info on why a Cigarette is a better boat.

a cig would be easier to tow upside down, then you won't have to get around the beak and your swim platform. sorry to all fountain owners, I couldn't resist

Cig holds it value better, much more attention to detail, and that "Cigarette" ride in rough water. Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.

A good quote I heard when I was a young buck.

"You can stand anywhere on a Cigarette and not hurt it."

Not so on the plexyglass Fountain hatches, dashes, windsheilds, etc, etc.

When I was riding along on one of the original Fog on the Water poker runs my Dad had his Cig while my uncle had his 42 fountain. We were running pretty hard, it was rough and side by side all the way. By the end of the poker run the interior on the fountain needed a ton of repair. The Cig just needed some screws in the bump rail tightened.

I have been on a 35 Cafe, a few 38 Top Guns, a 42 Tiger, a few 35 Fountains, and a few other 42 Fountains besides our 42.
All of these are high end Offshore rigs and built very well.
It's all a matter of preference.
To anyone on the street, Cigarette has brand name recignition over Fountain but in the Offshore racing game Fountain holds that over Cigarette.
The cigs will hold better resale value as for stated above.
If your buddy has a Cig and you have a Fountain, you guys are the $hit!
Have fun...I know we do.

Try this - spend an EQUAL amount of money on two boats of similar length, one a Fountain, one a Cig. Run to Bimini or Nassau from Miami and back. See who finishes first.

Then do it again.
