pachanga exhaust

my buddy just baught a 1988 pachanga 22' with a 454 mag and its exhaust runs thru a round barrel mounted in the corners before leaving the transom. Is this a muffler and can we get rid of them to improve sound and performance?

Yes, you can just buy two 4 inch fiber-glass elbows and you get a little more noise (smile) and an increase of maybe 30 HP.

I did this back in 1987 (old school)

I`ve got a 22 Pachanga also with the same set up. I`ve got to say that I really like them, they keep the noise down when travelling no wake speed but they don`t seem to hold it back when wide open. I`m very impressed at how well ours runs bone stock.

No flapper needed just watch the off plane speed keep the back wash to a minimum you know the deal.

My friend has a 27' and by-passed the cannister...but he DID install the flappers. Better safe than sorry!:D
And it DOES sound a hell of la lot beefier now!!

Took the 2 mufflers out of my brothers 32 twin 454 boat. Used the fiberglass elbows. Cost us around $300.00 for both motors for all the parts. Did sound and run better afterwards. Just watch comming down off plane......Ran like this 5 years and no trbls....... With the elbows and the height of the risers, it is doubtful there would be any reversion, but this was on a 87 32'.

They are Vernalift mufflers. You can see them on the VERNATONE website. They do suck a little power, but nowhere near 30hp.

They cut noise almost 30dB at 4000rpm.

Chuck em if you want it loud. But don't expect to see a big increase on the speedo.
