Tornado on the water?
Ever been caught in one? What happend? What did you do?
I almost was this Sunday. Scared the%$*! out of me. What is the best thing to do? I know... get off the water, get away from it, but this thing would not have allowed for anything like that. Luckily the thing puttered out as quick as it began, but I would like to be prepared the next time better. Only thing I could think about was ditch the boat on the beach and find cover. |
was this on Alum?

they are called water spouts. they are cool as hell to watch. i had one blow a news paper out of my had once while i was watching it from the wheel house of one of our tugs. a bit startling, but they don't usually get too scary.

Best thing to do is run as fast as safely possible away from it in a direction perpendicular to it's path. If you're blocked or trapped in a cove, for instance, get to land quickly I guess. Find some solid shelter, but beware of debris.
It's never fun being caught in bad weather. I've seen my fair share of waterspouts out on the water around here. It's fascinating, yet scary at the same time. I never know whether to stare at it or get the hell out of there! ;) |
Thrill-No. Not at Alum. At Deer Creek.
Dredge-No. Not a water spout. Does it become a "water spout" once it comes across the water? This was a funnel cloud developing into a tornado on land. Roger 1-There were fronts moving in and out all day long. Was keeping an eye on the weather all day. This thing started to develop and within about 10 min., it was a tornado that lasted for about 5 min. then lost steam. Daze-Thanks as always. |
the water spouts i've seen happen faster than you can predict. you can barely react if you are in close proximity.
if it was a tornado then i'm scared. i just went through a hurricane in texas and 111 mph winds were more than enough for me. i don't need to see a tornado. |
