Blaster Worm?
Anybody get this thing? I did and just got rid of it! BH
|
not yet here....I was expecting it here at the office but none so far. We keep Norton updated so we should be fine. I was fixing to post the fix but I see you've removed it already.
|
I had it along with a number of others on here. What a pain in the azz!
The fix from Symantec worked great to fix it. Once you get rid of it also make sure you download the patch(available from MS) to eliminate the vulnerability that caused this kind of attack. |
fix it asap if it sits on your system for more than a couple of hours it screws up windows causing buffer overrun errors that shut down your system over and over. at that point all you can do is reformat and reload windows.

Anyone know if it can infect Windows 95? I heard it only infects Wondows 2000 or NT.
Yes, I've still got 95 on my home laptop. Gary |
not sure if it affects 95 or not,,,,, but even if it does windows does not offer a patch for it because they do not offer "windows update" for 95 since they stopped supporting it.
i would just make sure you are current on your virus definitions by doing a live update through norton. |
microsoft doesnt support 95 or 98 anymore but neither one is affected by this only nt based systems.
|
I've been meaning to update to 2000 for the last year. I guess procrastination pays off again.

I did find a version of this on a friends home PC 2 weeks ago and removed it. They are running Windows 98 and it showed up as BM.exe. It caused the computer to boot and reboot and lockup when using internet explorer. It took me a few hours to locate it, but then I removed it and everything has been fine since then.
If you are having problems with Win98 I suggest pulling up your task manager and checking to see if that file is in there, if so, get rid of it |
I have it at work now. and it sucks My home computer doesn't have it because it's so damn damn OLD it's a commadore 64
|
bm.exe is a different virus that is set through email attachmetnts just as bad though.

As Baja says, appy the patch from Microsoft as well as updating your virus program. The virus program you are using (Norton, McAfee, etc.) may stop/clean this particular virus for the time being, but does not fix the hole in the OS and others will follow. You can bet hackers are deligently working on new viruses to exploit this hole in the OS for those who do not apply the MS patch...

I had it too. It was a pain to get FixBlast downloaded too. Computer kept rebooting.
What I don't get though, was before I knew what happened, Norton picked up that there was a virus, but when I scanned for a virus it came up nothing found. |
