Engine removal vs. winterizing
Ok, who's pulling engines for the winter and who's winterizing? Yeah, I know, only the guys north of the arctic circle need to winterize.
|
I'm winterizing with engines in....Fred
|
I actually found it was easier to pull the engines. It took just a little more time, was guaranteed to be done right, gave me a chance to give the engines a good once over, open them up, tighten everything, clean the bilge....the list is endless. The best part was being able to mess with them all winter. Oh, one more thing, I used the drives for end tables:D

C: Take your boat to FL!!!
Come on Dave, I'll keep an eye on it for ya down there:rolleyes: I'm taking the Post down in October |
"Pullin' mine"...The engines that is:p
Got a slight oil leak on the starboard one that I can't find from up top. Worse yet , I've been living with a pair of new engines that just don't have the power they should have , and I refuse to give up prime time in the summer to pull them(as long as they're running) |
winterizing and then underground storage. Hey, call me overcautious.
|
Jeez, DJD, I need to take the winter off to recover from all this fun I been having. And to save up for next year's gas.
|
Probably pulling mine. I want to dyno the new cam that will be here soon.

Winterize
Winterize with engines in boat. I bought a large rubbermaid bucket large enough and long enough to put my outdrive down in it. I pour about 6 gallons of antifreeze in there and about 6 gallons of water. I crank the boat and let it run until the antifreeze is coming out the exhaust. Its complete. (only works with no thermosat). If you have silent choice then it will still work. I have been doing this for about 6 years and never had a problem. Last winter the boat was in FL.

I usually pull the engines................Hey...wait a minute!!!! We dont have winter here.....
:) |
I think EVERYONE know's what I'm gonna do this year.

W.F., maybe we ought to meet at the secret Team Chaos cave, the American Legion to map out our strategy against those evildoers living in your crankcase.
|
And by the way, my plan is to pull the engines for freshening up, with a dyno run on one of them before and after the overhaul. And it will be a great time to detail the engine room while they are out.
