Our race boat is a 1982 39 Stinger Scorpion. Very heavy, but rides great. We had to replace the transom, stringers, and all cockpit bulkheads due to rot from water entrapment. New gas tank also. Be sure to check very carefully, or you'll end up with a major rebuild project.

The boat handles rough water on Lake Erie and elsewhere extremely well, but you're not going to be the fastest boat on the water by any stretch of the imagination.

No, I have not ridden in it yet. I doubt if he will put that much into it to fix it up. He just wants a big boat that he can take out on Lake Michigan and relax on. He's not into impressing anyone other than himself.
