I am going to learn how much speeding costs

Mom woke me up late for school, so Im wide open on the way to school this morning, speed limit was 55, got the ticket for 90 (nice cop) no wreckless op or wreckless endangerment (very nice cop). I now hold the record for highest traffic ticket this year at school, will have to pay 220$ in fines, plus court costs, loose my license for 3 weeks or more, pay for a safe driver class. I had an excused late to school though, and my truck is faster than i thought, and I didnt die, nor did anyone else, so there is some good things.

Tommy 'holding the record' ;)

mikev 09-02-2003 10:38 AM

just think of it this way how long did you have to sit while you were pulled over. you would have probably gotten there faster runnin 55-60 and not having to stop and wait for the cop to write you the ticket

Scott 09-02-2003 10:39 AM

Try 6 months, nice going! And it is not your moms fault you are old enough to get yourself up!
And if you think I'm a dick after reading this wait to the judge gets done with you!

CigDaze 09-02-2003 10:40 AM

Now, that's an expensive lesson.

Increased speed is good for aircraft, boats and long interstate trips by road. Going from 55 to 90 during a morning commute, really won't amount to more than a minute or two, after factoring in stops, lights, etc. It's not worth it!! You are increasing your reaction distance and braking distance by more than 3 times going from 55 to 90. Not very advisable.

Be safe out there. :)

outer42 09-02-2003 10:43 AM

Scott, I was thinking the same thing,Did she tuck you in the night before to hyper?

Von Bongo 09-02-2003 10:44 AM

The ticket is the small price, wait untiil your insurance company raises your auto rates, oh and probably your boat rates!

TEAMBAJA 09-02-2003 10:48 AM

Speeding tickets are no laughing matter. They will come back to haunt you for years. You'd be suprised to find out how many institutions judge you by your driving record. Slow the f#@k down!

Cord 09-02-2003 12:29 PM

Yep, you'll be in the 4 digit range now for insurance. The only question is if it will be for a 3 month or 6 month term. You gotta pay to play dude!

Jolley 09-02-2003 12:39 PM

DOOMARE(dumb ass) you gotta' remember an officer is looking at everyone, you are looking for only one of them (good odds, if you pay attention)!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought you said the neighbor was false accusing you of speeding 6 months ago. You have to balance, my brotha!!!!!!!!!WTF. Now try, and be a good Boy O.K.! :D :D :D

You point is a valid one....it takes a much longer time and distance to stop the faster you go.

Okay, splittin' hairs now are we? ;)
I'm sure your imperical data is more accurate, I was using some basic physics. You know, X=Xo+1/2at^2 and V=Vo+at. :)

Bottom line, Slow Down!!

HyperBaja:

Hire an attorney, if it is your first offense, your likely to get the charge reduced. Even with the attorney fees, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Juvenile court = Mommy + Daddy and a lot of I'm sorry sir followed up by a hand slap and a small fine:rolleyes:
The best part will be the reaming the juvenile judge will give along with a 6 month AUTOMATIC suspension.

If you are lucky the court will hold your license because you are a minor this means NO points and NO insurance increase.

I speak from experience in Ohio and 2 16 year olds in the household:rolleyes: 1 is a good driver with no problems so far the other has had two 6 month suspensions. I might add she has been 18 now for a few months without a license because the term carried over her 18th birthday and the judge did not care to hear her whine about it.

Finally -- Good advice. If your parents have an attorney, he can probably help and he may not charge.

6 months Mandatory suspension (new law).
I can't see hiring a Juvenile attorney for a speeding ticket just show respect and enjoy 6 months of saving gas money and taking the yellow school bus:eek:

THEJOKER 09-02-2003 02:23 PM

Hyper:

In Ga they just passed a law that you would of lost your license for a year! A local kid just last week was sentenced to 6 years in jail because he ran over and killed a couple on a Harley. Slow down , take a deep breath and enjoy your youth. BH

RHC 09-02-2003 02:49 PM

TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!!!!!!!!!

Ok Hyper Punk ,,,, it goes like this

Like Scott said, just deal with it ,,,, dont argue with the Man...

Thank the folks for supporting you and sticking with ya.

Get your priorities in order,, the boat should go 95, the truck 50

HyperBaja 09-02-2003 02:52 PM

Yes I will. With the gas money I will save, sell the t-bird and ranger, and buy a real truck to pull a boat, when I get some money (probably be 35 then)

I will call an old girlfriend (first street race I was in was against her brother, ironic) whos dad is a lawyer...

Phknlwyr 09-02-2003 03:48 PM

Many moons ago when I was 16 and lead-footed, I was nabbed doing 85 in a 55 in rural MD. The case was heard in a one room courthouse with a judge that was older and meaner than Scrooge. I had a lawyer with me who knew the judge. I got sentenced to a 300 word essay and a scowling, "Slow down, son!"

Go with a lawyer, take your lumps and grab your ankles when the new insurance bill arrives.

HyperBaja 09-02-2003 04:25 PM

Is the judge able to change this to "Wreckless OP"? If so, insurance will only go up 60/month for liability only, a total of 200 a month :( If not, then it is still a minor violation, and will go up about 10/month :)

Just call the courts

If you would of taken the time to read my posts you would have the answer:mad: Pay attention Kid!

wwwTOPDJcom 09-02-2003 04:50 PM

try to get it reduced, by no means plead guilty to 90 in a 55, if you do you will be in the "highest assigned risk"
see if he will let you plead to 15 over or 70 in a 55
you will need a lawyer to pull this off.
I had a 76 in a 55 reduced to a to a disobeying a traffic device $75.00

HyperBaja 09-02-2003 04:52 PM

I guess it is a good thing my "Cant drive 55" stickers arent on there yet, and that would have been an awesome theme song for my ticket :) I passed him, and didnt even look back, I pulled off and was sitting in a parking lot with radio off, license and registration in hand waiting for him to haul me off, LOL!!!

How? I have a 92 ranger 2.3, I was surprised I achieved 90, would that benefit me at all?

It doesn't sound like you have learned anything from this.

GETTING A SPEEDING TICKET IS NO BADGE OF HONOR!

It doesn't take any special talent or intelligence to get one. I've been driving for 32 years and I've had two speeding tickets. One when I was a punk ass. I learned from mine and didn't get another ticket for 30 years.

I assure you that if you had run into someone's mom, daughter, brother, son or dad, the family would not have been impressed with your attempt at being macho.
