Fountain makes a hell of a nice boat. They hold the record, true. But Outerlimits 42 GTX with Sterling power (1400-1500hp ea engine, PSI Blowers ) hit 148, in a pleasure boat ( non canopy boat ) with relatively new/low hours on the boat and power, and is expected to go faster with playing with props/break in.
Boat is named "Can You Hear Me Now" and was featured in a mag a couple of months back.
Just an FYI, not meaning to put down Fountains record, just some info. Good luck with the 38, but I agree with the other guys, drives wont last, need 3's or the B-Max.
A member of our club has a 89 42 with 850's. Had TRS's and kept lunching them. Went to 3's no more problems. He runs in the 90's with her.......Nice Boat !

My estimate is 95 to 100 mph...

This boat will be our shop boat. We will use it to test our engines and drives. Until now, we used a 30' Phantom, but it just wasn't big enough. We will probably build a 43' Nor Tech demo or maybe even a 36' Cat in the spring. I'm sure the drives won't hold, but I'll probably use IMCO SC's, as we've had great luck with them in the past. If the boat doesn't run well over 100 we'll sell it or just make more power. We built a 31 Cig bullet w/ comparable power that ran 104 GPS, so I think we'll be OK.
Thanks for all input.

We did that project a couple of years ago with an 01 38 Fountain. It had a pair of 950 HP blown 572's with B-Max's. Ran 115-118 here in Oshkosh and 106-108 gps at Lake Powell (4000 ft) where it called home. It surprised quite a few west coast hotboats and cats last fall at the fall Heatwave Poker Run. Funny thing was that before it went out kicked a$$, the big name west coast engine builders said it couldn't make that much HP or run that fast, it idled at 900 rpms in neutral. It was a little loose after 105, but with some experience and common sense it wasn't bad. Enjoy!
