Easier to get in and out of on some boats.

Nose to the waves in some areas

Easier to tie off

Many reasons but the main one is ......................

That it just looks so dang cool.

chuckbeecher 09-13-2003 06:06 PM

It makes it easier for a fast GETAWAY!!!!!!!

Great advise - where did you hear that - Love MOM!!

Only guys I know who pull in nose first don't usually know how to drive a boat.

R Addiction 09-14-2003 08:52 PM

Back it in....it looks cool!!!
It protects the drive(s)
Much easier to get in & out....

Better control and visibility!

I don't blame him, that is one sweet ride!
The reason you only see one fender in the pic of my boat is that I took up the whole 20' wide dock space and cross tied. Yep, I'm anal too.;)

Boy- I feel like a newbie for starting this thread- but it's good to be humble once in a while. You'd never now I've been powerboating for 10 yrs!

Unfortunately, we don't have the waterfront hotspots to dock at so it's pretty much put the boat on the lift (Must go front only on these lifts) and raft up with your friends. I guess I'll just have to practice now for when I go to Grand or Loto.

Steve_H 09-16-2003 12:41 PM

just curious after looking at the first pic in post #66 , was havaslew an open pit rock quary at one time:p

Of course he didn't.......he's a docking newbie and would be fine at LOTO. Probably pull straight into a slip. :D :D :D

Hey LOTOPARTY,

Grasp this concept. :D It was a canyon ya dope! Have you heard of the Colorado River? Have you heard of the Grand Canyon? Stumble your way out of the icey flatlands and head west and see how it all works! Add a dam, add some water, and you have a lake! (and power to send off and sell to SoCal at rediculous rates).:D :D :D :D

Steve_H 09-16-2003 12:56 PM

oh okkkkk , you mean just like Loto but WITHOUT vegetation?:D

OUCH! I'm going to have to find an open slip at the local Marina and post pics just to redeem myself!;)

Winds blowin today, good day to practice!

Marginmn 09-16-2003 01:45 PM

PhantomChaos, we back our boats into the dock on Lake Cumberland, it's no biggie once you get the hang of it - but holy #$%, the bows of those boats in your pics can't be six or seven feet apart. Sure doesn't leave much room to maneuver. Hats off to those drivers.

SummerObsession 09-16-2003 01:53 PM

Hey guys take it easy on Havasu. If you notice in the "Rock Quarry:p )" pic mentioned above, they are also building some low income track housing on those rocks.
Let's try to be more sensitive to those less fortunate than us!;)

Ms. INXS 09-16-2003 01:59 PM

This is how it is done in Texas.

I saw someone in Texas back in like this :)

32storm 09-16-2003 03:16 PM

Damn those boats don't have a lot of space between them on the opposing fingers in the picture by the bridge at Lake Havasau. A little closer and you could walk bow to bow with a beer in hand.

And without having to sit in the snow for 9 months!:D :D

See you guys in Havasu early October. What's the weather projected to be in LOTO then?!:D :D :p

Hope you all are leaving at the same time :D

Looks pretty flat and calm! Try a 8 knot current ripping out and a 15mph cross wind don't be ashamed of nose in it is just not always practical to back in!
