New race in Orange Beach,AL?

Got a call from a friend down there that the word on the street is that there is a National Race set in November that had been previously set for Key West. He had no clue whether it was SBI or APBA, he is not really into racing, just into what goes on where he lives. Anybody know anything? I will be there in a heartbeat regardless of the sanctioning body. Don't want to start a rumor but my buddy is very reliable. What's up?

Magicfloat 09-13-2003 07:19 PM

I will try to check this out thru my friends down in Orange Beach. The promoter of the last race, Gary Nichols, has no problem paying the bills,I will assume he would promote this race, so money is not a problem. Stay tuned.

Ron P 09-13-2003 07:26 PM

How about it Steve or Mike A. Any problem with Key West???? I just booked my air tickets to Key West yesterday.

Maybe SBI is going back rather than to Deerfield Beach.

racesdad 09-13-2003 08:29 PM

I just got a letter today from the Key West promoter about the worlds today. It also had a marathon logo plus a Key Largo race logo? What is going on?

Dirty Race Girl 09-13-2003 08:34 PM

I've got an Orange Beach connection too, I'll see what I can find out.

SBI didn't have anything scheduled in KW to be relocated, and APBA changed from Tampa/St. Pete to the Bahamas for one of their last races last year.

I do have to say, there is alot more BEACH in Orange Beach than in KW:D

cheapthrills 09-13-2003 08:46 PM

Didn't SBI have a race in Orange Beach in August? If so, would the city be ready to support another race in Nov.?

tachyon 09-13-2003 09:57 PM

We have thousands in deposits in KW already in rooms alone. This would be a major issue.....hopefully it's not a rumor like the Bahama's race not happening turned out to be...

Ron P 09-13-2003 09:59 PM

Room deposits can usually be refunded if you cancel within a few days. Airfare is another story.

I just can't see APBA letting go of KW.

What did the promotors letter say?

tachyon 09-13-2003 10:09 PM

Yeah, and we'll ask sponsors to reprint schedules again...

Ron P 09-13-2003 10:12 PM

Airfare has penilties if changes are made.

Hey, maybe a quite week of diving in the keys wouldn't be so bad after all. Who needs all that noise??????

cuda 09-13-2003 10:12 PM

Inquiring minds want to know.

powerboat princess 09-14-2003 02:32 AM

rumors

We are looking at another race- we have been asked to host the Nationals but another race in Oct too soon unless it is end of Oct. We might try to do the World in Nov. Have to raise money very quickly. Anybody know a corporate sponsor we can talk to? We need somebody big to help!

stevequick 09-14-2003 09:02 AM

Robin,
It would be great to have another race in Orange Beach. If anyone can pull it off, it would be your crew. We are counting on you to remember the Offshore lessons you learned this year.

The promoters have fantasies about world dominance, Nascar etc. In the end, their actions only hurt the racers.

Don't let them schedule on top of an existing race. Let the participants decide where and when they will race.

A racer and unimaginably stand up guy said to a promoter recently. We (Jersey Boys) don't marry any of you. We sleep with whoever we want. He used more colorful language of course.

If there is any way I can help please call or E-mail me. I made friends in Orange Beach I will have for life. SQ

powerboat princess 09-14-2003 09:31 AM

conflicts

WE hope the Nov timeframe doesnot conflict with any other race. You know we don't play politics either. We just enjoy putting on a good show for racers and fans. It may be a stretch to organize this but we can try. If we can find the money

Ron P 09-14-2003 10:11 AM

For who? SBI or APBA. Please don't tell me there is someone else.

Wazzup Racing 09-14-2003 10:47 AM

Oh Boy here we go again

????????????????

stevequick 09-14-2003 12:17 PM

November 2-9 time frame would be a conflict. Remember that they need adult supervision. SQ

THEJOKER 09-14-2003 01:53 PM

been there done that

Personally it wouldn't bother me to not go to KW. My business suffers every year( 2 days to get there - 1 week there - 2 days to get back and 1 week to recover from my hangover) HAHA - BH

cheapthrills 09-14-2003 02:32 PM

Come on Steve, you must know what's going on. Tell us, so we all know.

stevequick 09-14-2003 03:34 PM

Cheap,
I'm not even sure what day it is. I do know the racers need to let their feelings be known. And it would not hurt the promoters to think about them. SQ

Wazzup Racing 09-14-2003 07:23 PM

Worlds

If the Jersey Boyz have any say, The highlight of our year is to head south in november. Plans on running SBI in Deerfield, and our southern friends have offered to store our boats so we can run Kew west with APBA. Please dont stack the races on top of each other. It is no good for anyone. Hell maybe we will plan our own Worlds.........................The Boyz are growing

powerboat princess 09-15-2003 02:29 AM

race

Guys please - we did not ask for this, they called us. No we would not do it the same week SBI's race. We are looking at November 15th. Still not set in stone, we are meeting tomorrow to see if raising the money is even possible.

AugiePensa 09-15-2003 06:41 AM

Steve, you couldn't be talking about Smitty and I with the colorful language now could you! It was great being with you guy's in NYC and we'll see you in Deerfield Beach. Regards Augie.

F1-00 Racing 09-15-2003 08:42 AM

Guys its LLC, if you looked at SBI's schedule back in March it hasnt changed at all except for the wonderful addition of Orange Beach. Deerfield Beach is on and wont be changed. Best of luck today Robin, Gary and crew in Ala.
Sounds like the F1 boys had better worry about where the next race will be instead of what motor they will be running. You cant race any boats unless there are sites to run them at.
Just my .02
guys you can take your shots at me but facts are facts

stevequick 09-15-2003 09:05 AM

Augie,
I don't want to mention any names. Everyone seems so worried about speaking their mind. I thought people who race boats in the ocean were brave. The ones from Jersey are, thats a fact. SQ

Wazzup Racing 09-15-2003 09:33 AM

Who's got balls

Come one come all. The Jersey Boyz are holding a race on Friday in NJ. Waves are expected to be 18-24 ft. Just another normal jersey race.

Treadwellmotorsports 09-15-2003 09:37 AM

STEVE,

I AM NOT AFRAID READ MY THREAD. WE ARE ALL TIRED OF THE CRAP

BRUCE SEROFF 09-15-2003 09:47 AM

Smitty ...count me in..I just need to make sure my life insurance is paid up.

stevequick 09-15-2003 10:55 AM

Eric,
I never had you in mind Brother. There are many people who do this thing we do. We usually only hear from a few. My 2 cents is that we should all just tell it like the J-Boys.

The people who need to hear it are listening. When they begin to act like they need us more than we need them. It will get better, quickly. SQ

Gordo 09-15-2003 11:43 AM

Steve,
I gather you and Powerboat Princess are the promoters for Alabama?
If so, I look forward to meeting you'all.
I too have voiced my "opinion" on Eric Treadwells thread. I know that the powers that be are watching, and hope things can be worked out.
I would like to see things stay in Key West, at least for this year. But even if things somehow get worked out on the surface, I'm not sure we could trust that Lee Mills wouldn't try to sabotage the event since it didn't go his way.
Hopefully, Mr. Mills will realize he was making a huge mistake, and just back off so APBA can have another world class event.
Also, hopefully he will stop trying to gouge the racers and make his profits from the very people who put on the show.

F1-00 Racing 09-15-2003 12:41 PM

Guys I am not to sure what is going on in KW itself, but isnt the Annex closed due to contruction or something and I also heard that the Harbor part of the course isnt allowed this year. The above is just hearsay and I am not to clear on the facts but if they are true then it would probally be the best thing that we dont do KW. Where would the spectators watch from? Where would the new pits be?
But since the Bahamas was canceled approx 6 months ago and we were just informed of it 3 weeks ago I really wish LLC would get there head out of their asses and think about who is the ones lining your pockets with money and that is us the racers. Without the racers you have nothing. With all of your rule changes(mid-season)and not knowing where you are racing from month to month, its really getting old.
Please forget Lee Miles for a moment and someone from the almighty APBA LLC please step up to the plate and answers these rumors, because we the racers need to make plans with work, airlines, hotels, etc. Either that or I say screw it and lets all go to Deerfield. At least we know that race is going off w/o a hitch.

Reindl Powerboats 09-15-2003 01:02 PM

Robin,

If you need anything, let me know. I have been to every APBA race for the last 3 years and have on a few as well.

This is the worst circle jerk I have been in ever.

I had 10 friends booked in Key West. I just called them and they all canceled. Yes they can get the room $$$ back but not the plane tix. they will loose at least $300 each.

AS 1 buddy put it This is typical boating bull****.

stevequick 09-15-2003 01:20 PM

Gordo,
I'm just a participant (testosticles larger than IQ). Robin is part of the crew that put on one of the most spectacular races (I have seen) in years. Trent, he's a Jersey Boy. One of a group who have the most fun and speak the most truth. SQ

Cap071,

Usually you can obtain a credit for the flight for future use. Check into it. Glad you got the lodging money back. As for what your buddy said...typical offshore racing bull**** is what it is!

CAP071 09-15-2003 02:15 PM

Shane what pissed me off most was that I begged all my friends to take off work and use vacation days and spend money so we could all go down as a huge group. Then I used my travel agent and she calls me today asking what is going on why everyone is backing out now?

I can't even begin to tell you about all the married guys that got into hufe arguements with wives over them coming alone or with them! HA-HA!

AugiePensa 09-15-2003 02:44 PM

Thanks Steve, as Smitty said...We have a Jersey Boyz Race this Friday September 19, 2003 at 1:00PM in the Atlantic Ocean at the Beautiful Jersey Shore with waves to be between 18 and 24 feet.......that's what they call Offshore Racing! I wouldn't put it pass Sticks and Smitty to be out there and as you know....where Smitty and Sticks go, Kevin and I go!!!!!!Hpe we make it back in, Regards Augie.

overbored 09-15-2003 02:45 PM

Huhhhh........Why don't we all just race at the worlds with SBI this year and make Carbonell happy? Huh!
