Question 90-mph??

Could this hull hold up at 90-MPH? It looks like it would be suicidal to try. I have been looking for a little river boat to have fun with and I have always liked the looks of the Hydrostream.

HELL YES - I have seen a few of those that are very fast.
One of my friends used to have one of those.

I love teeny outboard deathtraps. I've got a 17' padvee with a 280+ horse Merc in a barn waiting for my boy to "earn" it (with driving experience, not money). I had the little mother at 7300rpm with a 32 Chopper on it.

Speed is a whole different WORLD when you can actually change the boat's speed one or two mph by flexing one side of your buttcheek or the other....

You'll want to start in smooth water and work your way up to WOT in small increments. Eventually, you will get to where you can drive one on the last inch of pad across the tops of cruiser wakes. Dang that;s fun.

You'll have a lot of trouble though, finding people who will ride with you.

before i got my first boat i took a ride in a hydrostreem. guy had a built up 150 merc on it. made like 250 hp. thing was scary fast. the guy stood it up copmpletely on end on some choppy lake water and it scared me so mush i went out and bought a 19' Baja open bow with a 175 that only did right at 60. The HS was about a 100 mph boat. very scary ina boat that size.

Will it hold up? Why wouldn't it? It wont even be touching the water!

I think by the shape of the beak it's a 17 footer I know 2 people that had 18's that did over 100. I had a 20' vegas XT with some work done to it that did 93 on speedo though not gps. The guy I bought mine from had a v8 evinrude on the back and said it did over 100. The late model streams were laid up too light and the hulls broke like mine did. But yours is older than 87 which is what mine was. Check the transom for stress cracks and look at the pad as well. I couldn't tell if that was a hydraulic transom jack or mechanical, mech. is the way to go. One last thing if that motor doesn't have some porting, dual stage reeds, drilled exhaust, solid mounts I doubt it does 90. And one very last thing lose the Rude and get a Merc. they run faster and look better.
