Boat Lift motor - Take 2

I got the wiring instructions for the Bremas switch / Leeson motor combination from Aqua Marine. The hookup basically is the same as outlined on the GEM remote contol site for the Leeson motor. I verified all the wiring color codes on my installation matched function with the Bremas documentation, and re-confirmed that the supply is wired for 220V.

The motor will run and reverse ... but only in free run and not under load. Using the Bremas/GEM wiring approach the start cap is only being used in one direction. Under the load of the lift, the motor will only start in whichever direction I have the start cap in the circuit (I got the motor internal wiring diagrams). Even if the start cap side is going "up" and the non-cap is going "down", the non-cap direction will not start .

Any other ideas? Do I need to return the Leeson motors an try to find another AO Smith motor? I dropped an inquary to Leeson to ask how to wire the motor for reversing duty, but don't expect I'll hear from them till next week (ie no boating this weekend).

For ref, the motor is Leeson Cat 100003.0 Model A4C17DH4 115/230V drip prof 3/4 HP 1750 RPM cont duty (same specs as the AO Smith motors that died).

Thanks - Greg

Finally!!

I was able to get a wiring diagram for the rotary switch and found out the original boat lift manfg had mis-wired it. Once I wired the motor to the "correct" switch everything works fine.

Now I can go boating again !!!

Greg I wonder how that lift ever worked in the first place. We are going through the same thing. The original motors were GE the replacements are Dayton.

PM me if you need the web site with the rotary switch wiring and the motor hook-ups.

Glad you got it figured out. I felt like a moron just trying to understand what you were asking about.
