I just received my Extreme Marine platform last week, and it's a nice piece. I'm a pretty decent TIG welder and fabricator, and they do a nice job. But I'm a sucker for the "row of coins" welds and good craftsmanship.
I'm wondering though, after I add the swim platform, can I advertise my 35' Mistress as a 38'if I ever decide to sell it??? Seems alot of people do....Heck, If I extend the ladder, I may have either a 39' or 40'.;) |
I say... " no platform at all".... it's supposed to be "offshore".... not a damn swimming pool with motors... :p

I really think it depends on the boat and the buyer. I had a molded platform on my old boat and I have aluminum steps on my new one. They both had their place and advantages. The molded platform was nice because you could stuff some stainless automotive (Borla) mufflers under there and be super quiet. I don't like how molded platforms add artifical length to a boat. I really feel the boat length should be measured to the transom, not the platform. The platform isn't counted if it's fabbed out of aluminum, so why should it be counted if it's built of glass? Anyways, to answer your question Wally, what if the built-in platform was a option? You could easily block off the platform in the mold for somebody that didn't want it.

straight back, no sissy platform at all............

I like the flat back. With the price of these boats I would hate payin for 2 feet of boat that doesn't exist. (although companies like lavey craft don't include their integrated platforms when they name the boat; their 29 nuera has an LOA of 30.7 feet, that I could pay for as a 29' boat.)

If the boat was a surface drive (Arneson) then a molded platform or bussle makes sense to me also will save your life.it has to do with taste.Sterndrive different story.

I usually perfer the lines of the squared/ classic boats. I guess it depends on the boat. I all for the more boat for the money.

I like the flat back and the tube platform. I had a Z33 Donzi with the molded in platform. Molded is a good name because that is what was growing out of it, that and grass. Even though it was only in the water weekends it still leaked water out of it all week. I would look at it and wonder how I could cut it off and have a flat back. It also screwed up the wake.
