Getting rid of broken cars....

Want to buy this nice Firebird down the street, Dad said I can after I sell my truck and my thunderbird. The truck is fine, do dealerships normally buy cars if I dont plan to buy from them? Any advice to get the most $ out of the car? And my thunderbird is broken, transmission is pretty much shot, other than that pretty good shape, glossy paint, any way to get rid of it at a decent price?

Thanks,
Tommy

Car Trader or any local papers that have classifieds.Dealer won't give you jack.Better selling yourself.

A little to expensive and I would like both of them gone ASAP.

Sometimes some dealers will sell on consignment. Usually not the big manufacturers. You would have to check and see what the terms would be. Typically they will not just outright buy a car off of you. Do like Jim and Tammy said. Autotrader or local paper is best bet.

I did that and was told it was breaking the "deed restrictions" this was from a guy with a full fence...also agaisnt deed restrictions.

I usually donate my dead cars to the rescue mission and take the tax write off.

HyperBaja 10-12-2003 08:10 PM

I would donate, but I want to get around 500. KBB is about 2500.

GO4BROKE 10-12-2003 08:15 PM

Try going to the dealer and asking the techs if they want it for $500. If its worth $2500 someone might want it that can fix it cheap. Use www.nadaguides.com I feel its values to be more accurate than kbb.

I know you guys have some differences. Like how dealerships are open on Sundays there. They all have to close on Sundays here.

Price the truck at trade-in value and advertise it with a good picture in Trader. It'll move FAST.

Take good pictures of the Tbird (all exterior angles, interior dash, interior front seats, interior back seat, trunk, under hood, odometer) to the local Ford service department and ask the techs. Do the same at the trans shop in your town.

Dealers won't buy for their inventory unless you are selling at below low book on an item that should move quickly. Forget a dealer buying the Tbird.

ebay

Cord 10-13-2003 08:22 AM

Yea, ebay. Hyper won't itemize, so the tax deduction is worthless to him.

Buy a $200 boneyard tranny for the bird, throw it in and sell it for twice as much. Its only a couple hour job.
