closed cooling system
 

i was searching for performance couplings and i saw a closed engine cooling kit from cp performance.salty water here is damaging my engine very seriously.is there anybody here using closed cooling?
advantages?disads?

advantages: salt doesn't kill your motors.
disadvantages: salt still kills your outdrives, heat exchangers, and exhaust risers...

I have a closed cooling system on a Merc HP525. I like it.

I would be a bit careful about an aftermarket cc system. The system, especially the heat exchanger must be properly sized.

If salt is your only problem, then possibly a good flush system, such as the Guardian would fit the bill.

cc lets you run a controlled mix of water and antifreeze thru your motor under controlled pressure. This is good stuff.

The block, heads, headgaskets, and intake will have zero internal corrosion issues with cc.

Your raw system (anything on the outside of the hull, the raw pump, the coolers, the heat exchanger, and the exhaust system will still be exposed to salt water. Exhaust risers are usually the weak link in a salt motor, closed cooling or not - after market stainless exhaust is the best option for that part of the equation, but you still need to keep an eye on those parts over time.

Heat exchanger sizing is, as said, extremely important. Most "standard" systems are sized for 500 hp. Adding superchargers and upping horsepower increased the cooling demands on the system and requires an upsize.

Running 2 heat exchangers in series is something I have seen done on a budget application (2 standard exchangers can usually be found cheaper than a single "special high performance exchanger).

closed cooling works great on race engines. It helps to have an even temp throughout the engine.

It will add about 100 lbs. No big deal compared to the benifits.

I have seen a second heat exchanger placed in-line to cool the headers. Worked Great.
