OT: Bat houses?

I bought a bat house today. Yes a House for bats sorta like a bird house, except for bats. Anyone seen these before?

Just have to ask, why would you buy a bat house??

It helps with insect control. Somebody gave me one a couple of years back, I put it up but the bats never found it

You know to be honest I didn't leave the house today to go buy one. I was walking down the aisle to buy bird food for all the pretty birds in my yard. I was looking at getting them a new house, WHEN I see this Bat house and I start to think to myself. I have wasted tons of money on boats in my life and these poor bats get no respect nor do they have a place to live so I'll buy em a house. Actually I have no Friggin Idea I just bought the darn thing.

My buddy said it's like section 8 housing for birds I'll be ruining their neighborhood

I'm reading the package now it says it may take a full year for my local bats to be comfortable and move in to this house.

Now are you goin to be like all the other deadbeat section 8 landlords and live in another state from where the housing is? You know you cant have the disgruntled bats coming and lookin for you.

Once you get them, you can never take it down. Seems some of them are on the endangered speceis list. So to get rid of nest , they all have to be cought and relocated.
One farm we rent has them in a barn. The landowner would love get rid of them. They leave a very sticky smelly mess. He asked someon at the local DNR office how to get rid of them and was told, "You can't"

Have fun

Doing a search for them I have found some good plans for building bat houses. I'm on a pond with 200' of frontage and the skeeters can get pretty bad. I've seen bats around. I think it might bring some more if they had a place to "hang out".
